COVID-19 Notice, updated 25-September-2020: -The trails and grounds are open sunrise to sunset daily. They will remain open so we can get some fresh air and enjoy open space while maintaining an appropriate social distance. -The Sterling Nature Center is conducting a mix of in person public programs and Facebook Live events. -In person programs are by pre-registration and have limited groups size. All participants are required to wear facemasks -The building is open when s...taff is available. Let's Have a Big Year 04-January-2021 Update Having a Big Year in birding means that the birder is trying to see as many bird species as you can during a calendar year, so with the events of last year I decided to Have a Big Year in 2021. You can do this too. There have been 204 species of birds observed and reported on ebird.com at the Sterling Nature Center. During the month of January, 56 species have been recorded in years past. How many can we observe this month? So far I have observed 17 species, that means there are a lot more to discover, I guess that means I need to get out for another hike or two...

18-October-2020; Kindred Kingdoms Wildlife Rehabilitation released an immature bald eagle at the Sterling Nature Center. She seemed to be enjoying the free flight on the wind off Lake Ontario, soaring, circling and even pausing still on the stiff breeze before heading west along the lakeshore.
