Aimed at being a social condenser, the Cofco Cultural and Health Center is of spatial energy and openness, inviting the whole community in for recreational and cultural programs. The landscape and two public buildings are merged by the concept of clocks and clouds. The landscape is organized in large, clocklike circles forming a central public space, and the buildings are cloudlike in their porosity and openness. I had the idea of clocks and clouds based on a text by Kar...l Popper where he divides the world into clockseverything that is rationaland cloudsthings that we can’t quite figure out. This notion of clocks, these circles, make this public space the central element and you can see both buildings shape that curved space. Yesterday, April 26, 2022, the foundation stone of Meander was laid in Töölö, Helsinki. It is a great joy to return to Helsinki, says Steven Holl, where the win of the competition for the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Arts changed my life. Now, our competition-winning design of 2006 for a space-shaping ‘meander’ within the existing urban block is being realized. The section gradually rises to face the bay, and the horizon where sea and sky meet reminds us of a place of the beginning of life. As John F. Whitney Water Purification Facility and Park (designed in 1998, opened in 2004) is heated and cooled with 88 geothermal wells, and is the largest green roof in the state of Connecticut. We are thrilled to announce that the new Nancy and Rich Kinder Museum Building at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston will open to the public on Saturday, November 21, 2020. The Kinder Building is dedicated to presenting works from the Museum’s international collections of modern and contemporary art. It will open with the first comprehensive installation of these works. In addition, eight major site-specific works will be inaugurated at the time of the opening. These models, originally made in the 1990s for the Chapel of St. Ignatius, were repaired for the Steven Holl: Making Architecture exhibition’s new, more biographical section titled Pacific Northwest that celebrates Steven Holl Architects’ work in the region. Over the exhibition’s almost two years of travel, it has expanded from the three main sections - Thinking, Building, Reflecting - to include two additional sections.
