Stony Brook University's Doctor of Physical Therapy program will be hosting its annual Baby Day on Friday, June 17 from 10:00 - 12:00. This experience is part of the students' Growth and Development Across the Lifespan course where they learn the details of infant motor and cognitive development. Each year, we try to recruit as many infants as possible so that the students can appreciate the wondrous variety of human development. Please contact Susan Miale ([email protected]) if you have a child between 2-months-old and 16-months-old that you would be willing to let us observe OR if you think you might know anyone else who would be interested in participating. Two first-year students from Southampton, Ashtyn Muzio and Faith Pelle, spent their winter break organizing an information session for students and faculty interested in hearing about experiences from physical therapists that work with dancers. Ashtyn and Faith are dancers themselves and were looking for inspiration before starting their first spring semester. Stony Brook PT alumni Joe Conger, Christine Keller, Brigid Gillis, and faculty member Agnes McConlogue-Ferro spoke at... this event, sharing their stories and experience about their dance background, tips and tricks on how they used dance to their advantage during PT school while learning material, living situations for their practices, advice to their previous selves in PT school, and even input how non-dancers can learn more about the dancer population and dancer's bodies. It was a fantastic night filled with laughter, learning, and motivation. We are so grateful for all of these beautiful people! We thank our speakers and everyone who joined Ashtyn and Faith's wonderful event! See more

Christina Burke just finished a terrific LSVT BIG certification lab on Zoom for some of the third year DPT students. It was a huge success! DPT faculty, Nancy Krisch, Lisa Muratori and Sarah Cohen, were kind enough to assist Christina in the LSVT BIG certification. Thank you to all the individuals who are battling Parkinson's Disease who volunteered to help in this process.

This year, instead of our annual DPT Formal celebration, we wished our third-year students much success in their final two clinical experiences over a "send off" Zoom event. We would like to thank all our of dedicated clinical faculty that have so graciously welcomed our students into their facilities for these important senior clinical learning experiences despite the pandemic. Today we proudly celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities, and feature one of our many heros, Jillian Mercado. Jillian is a model, activist and actress on 'The L Word: Generation Q'. Agnes McConlogue-Ferro and Jillian have a cherished relationship that has spanned over two decades. Jillian has graciously been part of Stony Brook DPT's Pediatrics class the past several years. On this day, and every day, we support Jillian for who she is: a true champion of body positivity, inclusivity and equality for all. Jillian is pictured here with Agnes and former DPT students (now alumni!) Yi, Annie and Danielle.
