February 17th marks the anniversary of Lee’s passing. We honor and celebrate his legacy and cherish the work he left for us to continue. As Lee himself once said, Art is longer than life. These words now hang outside the school he built with Anna, the school we so gratefully call our home.
We love seeing our teachers in action! Check out our wonderful instructor Marcel at work with his son in this national E*Trade commercial!
We bear witness to and are deeply saddened by the immeasurable injustices and pain endured by the Black members of our community and our country. We offer our love and heartfelt compassion to those who are suffering and to those who are engaged in the fight for justice. As a community of artists, we celebrate and value the richly diverse and powerful voices, talent, culture, stories and history of all people. It is our responsibility to ensure that each voice is equally signi...ficant and vital in the arts and to all of us as fellow human beings. It will take more than a declaration of support for justice and equality to stand against the history of racism and institutionalized oppression in this country. We have a responsibility, as artists and as human beings, to take an active role in shaping the future we wish to see. We vow to do more to embrace and amplify the works of black artists and artists of color in our teaching, in our performances, and in all of our artistic pursuits. Let us dedicate our voices and take action toward building a new reality in the arts and in every field of human endeavor based on respect, equity, justice, inclusivity and a profound belief in the significance of each person. Make your voices heard. We are with you. #BlackLivesMatter

Exactly one year ago today, our staff, faculty, students, and alumni gathered to honor the Institute’s 50th Anniversary and to celebrate the next 50 years to come. A year ago, we never could have imagined a world of online classes, one where we cannot see all your wonderful faces in person. However, despite the many challenges that 2020 has brought, we have been and continue to be impressed with, inspired by, and so very proud of our students’ perseverance, hard work, and ingenuity. No matter the shape of the industry, we know that the next 50 years will be marked by an incredible generation of artists.

Hey NYU APT, Transfer and Independent Curriculum students! Don’t forget to submit your self-tapes for The Line by this Friday at 7pm EST. We are so excited to be presenting a virtual production of Jessica Blank and Eric Jensen’s The Line this semester, directed by the incredible Henri Esteve. Best known for his role as Javier Salgado on ABC’s Revenge, Henri is an alumnus of LSTFI himself. The first time I ever felt at home on a stage was in the Marilyn Monroe Theatre, ...in Lola Cohen’s Tuesday morning class. That building, that institution, holds a really special place for me and I am excited to work with people experiencing it for themselves. -Henri Esteve Stay tuned for more on this upcoming production!
