Meet our Fleet Supervisor: David Foster Major: Policy Studies Minor: Data Analytics Year: Senior ... From: Old Lyme, CT Hobbies: Photography, Biking, and anything to do with cars! What does David love most about SUA as Fleet Supervisor? Being the fleet supervisor at SUA has allowed me to learn more about the administrative side of SUA/EMS as well as giving me a more in-depth experience with our first response and EMS vehicles. I feel like I am contributing to the overall, exceptional level of care we provide to those on campus by ensuring that these vehicles are always ready to respond to any call at any time!

The members of our organization are unequivocally our most crucial aspect, and making sure we are stocked with the necessary supplies to perform the highest level of patient care, coupled with the ability to work with so many people on a regular basis is what means the most to me serving at the Facilities Supervisor for this year.

Meet Car 7 - Alex Giudice Majors: Biology and Neuroscience Year: Senior From: Nesconset, NY Hobbies: Running, Playing the Euphonium, Photography, and Reading (sci-fi mainly!)... What does Alex love most about SUA? What I love most about SUA is the community that it fosters. In this community, I have made some of my best friends and learned important lessons that have shaped me into both the person and provider I am today. What does Alex provide to SUA? As a supervisor and person, my goal is to even better that SUA community for the future generations of SUA. While working with the membership, I feel that I provide a light-hearted environment and work with members towards their own individual goals. I aim to be an easy person to learn from, and yes, I will even do training at 0300! Just ask some of the amazing members that I have worked with! At the end of the day, I feel that this fosters a place in which members feel like it is okay to make mistakes, but also a place where they will learn from those mistakes and be confident in themselves and their abilities the next time they encounter that same challenge. Ultimately, my goal as a supervisor, is to be there for the membership as someone they can turn to for EMS but also as someone they can turn to for anything in life as well.

Meet our Treasurer: Emily Michaels Major: Information Management & Technology and Psychology Year: Junior From: Westchester, NY... Hobbies: cooking & reading What does Emily love most about SUA as treasurer? Being treasurer has given me new responsibilities and a unique perspective on how SUA operates. Not only do I manage the budget of our current trainings and supplies, but I get to research innovative equipment that will better the knowledge of our crews. As an admin member, I am a leader for our org off-shift, which has already allowed me to work with new people and make SUA exactly what members want it to be. I’m so grateful for SUA for giving me endless opportunities to grow and lead, and I can’t wait for the rest of the year as TREA$URER!

Meet Car 3 Jake Anderson Major: International Relations Minor: History Year: Senior From: Brooklyn, NY... Hobbies: Binge Watching TV What has SUA done for Jake? SUA is the agency that I started with and it’s one of my favorite places. SUA has provided me with so many opportunities to learn and lead. What does Jake provide to SUA? I think most people would say that I’m easy going and willing to help out in anyway I can, which is also something I expect of the crews who work under me. I am also very spontaneous and most members don’t know what to expect on my shifts other than it will be fun. I expect professionalism and approachability for every member in this organization, and that is something I strive for on every shift. It was something I learned working with some really great and awesome people in the NYC 911 System. And as a plus, I’ll have you speaking like a New Yorker, by the end of the call or shift!

Meet Car 5 - Dean Herrera Major: Supply Chain Management & Real Estate Minor: Geography Year: Senior... From: Glenview, IL Hobbies: skiing, cooking, woodworking What does Dean love most about SUA: What I love most about SUA is how unique of an opportunity it provides. There aren’t many collegiate organizations that help students obtain a certification that can let them go work as a trained professional here or pretty much anywhere, and use the skills they gain from experience in not only the medical field, but also apply them to almost any real world setting. What does Dean provide to SUA? What I feel as though I can provide for the organization and campus community as a supervisor is (hopefully) a sense of reassurance. I’m generally a calm person, and so I try to empathize with my crews and patients during medical emergencies, which can be frightening and confusing for both parties. I like that I can work in a role that I enjoy, and have a positive impact on the people that I train and lead as well as with people on and around our campus. I hope that my experiences and leadership are helpful and inspiring to the next generation of SUA’s EMTs, so they can continue to provide the high levels of care that the organization has for almost 50 years.

On this day 42 years ago, a tragic fire at 701 University Ave took the lives of four Syracuse Fire Department firefighters. The house, which had been turned into apartments, was occupied by students of Syracuse University. On that night, first due units arrived and immediately experienced heavy fire conditions. Rescue company personnel began a search of the building for students possibly trapped inside. At some point during their primary search, they became entrapped and wer...e unable to escape. Students had escaped prior to arrival. Where that structure once stood now stands the Syracuse University Whitman School of Management. A plaque was placed in the basement of Whitman to remember the sacrifice of those firefighters.
