Rest in Peace Ed Benguiat (1927-2020) Quoted from @svanyc post: "Known as the "man of 1000 faces," Benguiat was an integral giant in the world of typography and font creation. Benguiat, who taught at SVA for nearly five decades, and was awarded Teacher of the Year in 1995, designed hundreds of typefaces for Photo-Lettering and ITC (International Typeface Corporation). Benguiat designed a bevy of iconic logos including The New York Times, Esquire, Playboy, Sports Illustrated, Coke, Ford and many famous typefaces including Avant Garde Gothic, Bauhaus, Tiffany, Souvenir, and more. His eponymous ITC Benguiat font was re-popularized when it was used by Netflix for the #StrangerThings logo." Benguiat also created the popular SVA Varsity Logo, which we've featured on select apparel and merchandise throughout the years.
