Former SPD Sgt. William Croft is currently suffering from an illness and is in the ICU at Community General. Sgt. Croft is receiving breathing treatments at this time, and it is difficult for him to utilize his phone without lowering his oxygen levels. The family has asked that you keep him in your prayers, and once he is back on his feet, he will be in touch. The PBA wishes you well in your recovery, Sgt. Croft.

The Syracuse PBA extends its deepest condolences to the Miguel family regarding the passing of former Chief of Police, Gary Miguel. Proudly representing SPD for 36 years, Chief Miguel was a staple in the Investigations Bureau, leading the charge against drug trafficking and violent crime. As Chief of Police, Chief Miguel served with the outmost integrity, dignity and respect. RIP, Chief Miguel, you will be missed by many.

Earlier this morning , Engine 90 and Ladder 41 were responding to an accident involving an overturned vehicle in the Bronx. While responding to the call, a man ...was standing out on the edge of traffic and threw a large, unknown object at the windshield of Engine 90, chauffeur side, thus shattering the windshield and covering the chauffeur in glass. The chauffeur of Engine 90 abruptly halted, Ladder 41 as well, and in return the man then produced a the knife and proceeded to circle the apparatus, stabbing and vandalizing the vehicle in multiple areas. He also began to attack Ladder 41 and attempted to enter the cabin of both apparatuses where members were inside but luckily, his attempts were unsuccessful. The members of both Ladder 41 and Engine 90 called for police assistance and continued to drive their vehicles slowly to ensure the perpetrator was distracted and didn't attempt to attack civilians in the near area. Fortunately, the police the arrived on scene and were able to apprehend the suspect after an unsuccessful getaway attempt. Both companies had to be taken out of service for repairs to the apparatus, and were unavailable to protect the citizens of the Bronx until they were fixed. Attacks like these, unfortunately, have happened to multiple FDNY Firefighters and Apparatuses as of recent, either by rioters or by separate violent individuals. Crime and violence is on the rise in New York City and it is now affecting our firefighters from doing their job. Something must be done about this before it only gets worst.

Today we remember Syracuse Police Detective Wallie Howard Jr. On October 30, 1990 at approximately 2:24 pm Detective Howard was assassinated while operating in an undercover capacity on the Central New York Drug Enforcement Task Force. At the time of his death Detective Howard was 31 years old, a loving son, father and highly respected member of the department and community. Wallie, your memory and the sacrifice you and your family made for this city will never be forgotten.

Too many of our elected leaders’ policing policies exist in a fantasy world. This is what the reality looks like.

*SYRACUSE LEADERS SILENT ON ATTEMPTED SHOOTING OF OFFICER* Five days ago, for the second time in less than two months, an employee of the City of Syracuse was intentionally shot at while performing their job. A job protecting those who visit, work in and live in the city. The response of Syracuse’s elected officials, those who represent those we protect? Nothing...silence. No press conferences on the steps of City Hall, no public statements, no social media postings. Not...hing to publicly condemn this audacious attack. Nothing to tell the emboldened criminals of this city this is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Nothing to tell their constituents they will call for law and order and support those responsible for maintaining it. Instead, they are silent, further empowering the anti police movement that is resulting in record breaking crime both nationally and locally. Is this who should be running this city? People who won’t side with good over bad? City of Syracuse - Office of the Mayor
