We celebrate internationally renowned Baritone, Robert Keith McFerrin today. Overcoming seemingly insurmountable obstacles Robert became the first Black man to perform at the Met (1955), Musical America's "Artist of the Month" (Aug 1957) and in 2003 won the lifetime achievement award from Opera America and Opera Volunteers International. #BlackHistoryMonth #opera #music

Celebrating Black History Month! Marian Anderson's voice rang across the Lincoln Memorial in 1939 with only a solo pianist. Marian enthralled with her brilliant range among pieces such as Gaetano Donizetti’s opera "La Favorita". Segregation, discrimination and systemic barriers did not hold her back; a voice like hers heard "only once every 100 years." #BlackHistoryMonth #opera

A year ago the Syracuse Opera Chorus was deep in rehearsal for our acclaimed production of Candide. We look forward to being together again. In the meantime, enjoy this memory. https://fb.watch/3h5xLreP88/

Because Opera is not only seriously passionate but also hilariously funny. Combine the two (with the help of creativity and technology!) and you get an amazing experience guaranteed to lift your spirits on this dreary Monday of World Opera WEEK! Enjoy! Dear friends of Syracuse opera! A little over a year ago we were saying goodbye to Cosi fan Tutte. We were taking a breath and looking ahead to our next production Candide. Little did we know a virus called COVID-19 was already on its way to change everything. The joy of Candide came and went, we started getting ready for Tosca. But Tosca never happened.... When it looked like the virus wasn’t going anywhere for a while, we started talking about when we could come back. Along with personal tragedies, everyone in the performing arts was suffering from all the uncertainty and afraid our field was being obliterated. It soon became clear that we wanted not just come back, but use a difficult unprecedented time full of loss and anxiety to make something better and stronger. Reopen our doors not just as soon as possible, but when it was right. So...... we are, let’s say under construction !!!!! As we close International Opera Day , we have decided to make this not a day but a week! Stay tuned all week for new content and little announcements! I am not linking our website because it’s not updated right yet, bear with us! We are gathering the troupes! In the meantime here is the delightful Julie Newell One of many new board members joining this whole new Syracuse opera.

Just to remind everyone of the talent and passion we have right here in CNY! Happy World Opera Day!

Syracuse Opera 24.09.2020

Today my friends is World Opera Day. Officially designated, each October 25th, artists and audiences alike celebrate the beauty, power, and passion of this consumate art form. Join Syracuse Opera in celebrating by listening to some of your favorites in a series of concerts by OperaVision. Then tell us what you are most looking forward to hearing in person....at Syracuse Opera or elsewhere, when we are again safe to perform in public. https://operavision.eu//performances/concerts/celebration-#

One year ago Syracuse Opera presented one of its most acclaimed productions in recent years, Cosi fan tutte. This year we're working behind the scenes to continue to bring professional opera to our community. Rest assured that we, like other businesses and arts organizations, will rise from the ashes of the pandemic with the passion and vigor we have always been known for. Watch for us! Support us! There's no time like the present to ensure the future!

Opera singers have glorious, passionate and powerful voices. So do you. Let your voice be heard. We all need to fight racism whether on the stage, in our daily lives or in the national arena. Each one of us has a role to play. Together we can make change.

Our thanks to Opera America and and to the many artists who lent their voices to this project. We are especially proud of the artists whose voices have brought us joy and are considered part of our Syracuse Opera family: Javier Abreu, Troy Cook, Tara Curtis, Luis Alejandro Orozco, Robert Wesley Mason, Brian James Myer and Laurel Semerdjian. This project is an example of the vitality and resiliency of our field and a demonstration that even while we are apart, music brings us together. The opera community needs your help now more than ever. Donate today to keep opera here tomorrow at www.syracuseopera.org. Enjoy!

Today is #GivingTuesdayNow, a global day of giving and unity as an emergency response to the unprecedented needs that COVID-19 has caused. All our lives have been turned upside down and the performing arts community is no exception. We have all had to cancel performances, lay off staff and try to figure out how to navigate the future of our organizations faced with the uncertainty of funding sources and ticket revenue. Syracuse Opera has been enriching lives through locally ...produced opera, celebrating the human singing voice through the spectacle of live theater for over 45 years. We strive to inspire our audiences with glorious voices, beautiful staging and compelling stories to create an unforgettable experience. Please consider making a donation, no matter the size, to Syracuse Opera or any organization that brings you joy and touches your soul. We all need your support now more than ever. Donate today to keep opera here tomorrow at www.syracuseopera.org

Today we would have been in the Crouse Hinds Theater sharing a much anticipated production of Tosca. While we are extremely disappointed that we had to cancel our season closer, we know that the health and safety of our entire community should be the priority. That being said, we did not want the day to pass without reaching out. We hope you enjoy A Moment in the Garden with Syracuse Opera.
