Earlier this year we gathered together for TCG’s National Conference amidst a global pandemic and a reckoning for racial justice. This year’s Fall Forum takes place amidst that continued backdrop, plus the added need for collective breath during a challenging election season. As we examine how these and other challenges impact our field, we present the 2020 TCG Fall Forum: A Just and Thriving Theatre Ecology. November 11th: Summit on Governance The first day will welcome TCG... Member Theatre leaders and trustees in a working session centering the #WeSeeYouWAT demands through the lens of governance. November 12th & 13th: Centering Joy, Community and Accountability for A Just & Thriving Theatre Ecology The final two days of the Fall Forum will welcome all practitioners in the field. Amid a divisive election and the ongoing pandemics of COVID-19 and racism, we’ll focus on connecting with and caring for each other. Our four plenary spaces will invite generative and emergent conversations around four themes: Joy, Community, Accountability and finally answering the question, What do we mean by Just & Thriving? In each session, we’ll make space to discuss the foundation and practice of these themes, allowing for the smaller group connections and sharing that have always been a beloved part of our in-person gatherings. Through these conversations, we hope to collectively envision our way forward. For more information and to register: https://circle.tcg.org/events/fall-forum-on-governance

"SMU DataArts Director Zannie Voss, Ph.D., will share key findings from The Alchemy of High-Performing Arts Organizations. Using a technique borrowed from the business world, the research offers analysis and insights into approaches adopted by especially healthy arts institutions and other organizations that were in distress but managed to turn things around."

How can arts and culture organizations address the new normal caused by #COVID19 and other challenges? A new scenario planning toolkit aims to guide arts leaders through the considerations. "Theatres have rightly been focusing on how to reopen safely, how to center BIPOC artists, and how to support #GetOutTheVote efforts. With our production of Fannie Lou Hamer, Speak On It!, Premiere Stages, the professional Equity theatre in residence at Kean University, is working toward all three." https://circle.tcg.org//2020/10/16/fannie-lou-hamer-speak-

From our colleagues at the Knight Foundation: Though the events of 2020 have cast a spotlight on systemic racism, Black theater has long been making art in context of racial inequity and working to dismantle it. On Episode 15 of DISCOVERY, we’ll talk with Gary Anderson, producing artistic director of Plowshares Theatre Company in Detroit. Anderson is also a co-founder of Black Seed a new, unprecedented national initiative addressing historic inequities in theater by foste...ring growth and sustainability for Black theater organizations. We’ll discuss why it’s important to remake theater for an equitable future beyond COVID-19 and how to do it.
