Save the Date! 3-Loop Airplane Board Class Thursday January 28, 2021 5-6pm EST $40... Join Sean Gallagher & Elaine Ewing for this one-time class on how to effectively use the 3-Loop airplane board with your students. Originally developed by Sean Gallagher, the 3 Loop Airplane Board is a hybrid of two of Joe’s original 4 airplane boards- the single loop and the double loop airplane boards. This model was created as an easier way to practice the archival exercises along with the standard Airplane exercises without having to switch boards in between. This class will focus on using the 3 Loop Airplane Board for the archival exercise originally presented on Pilatesology by Sean Gallagher and Elaine Ewing- The Standing Bicycle. When is the proper time to introduce this exercise and what exercises must lead up to it before it is introduced? What is the purpose behind this exercise, who is it for, and how do we teach it safely and effectively? This class is a must for teachers who would like to better understand the purpose and use of this newly introduced auxiliary apparatus in order to teach safely and with confidence. Details: A 3-loop airplane board is required to register for this class. If you do not have a 3 loop board and would like one in order to join our class, please email [email protected] for info on how to order our 3-loop airplane board conversion kit, so that you can turn your 2-loop airplane board into a 3-loop board. If you do not have this airplane board before the date of class, you may request a recording of class after you get your board. Additional apparatus will be used during this class, such as the reformer, the mat, and the Wunda Chair or Electric Chair. Each registrant will be contacted before class to confirm possession of a 3 loop airplane board. Questions? DM me! Register with the Rhinebeck Pilates app or sign up online: rhinebeckpilates.com

30 years ago this month I graduated from my Feldenkrais practitioner teacher training program with Anat Baniel. (Thanks John Link for the idea of posting the ce...rtificate) Feldenkrais work is one of the foundational systems I use in my physical therapy practice to help dancer, actor, singers return from injury and dysfunction. I usually start with modified lessons or FI and then as function returns along with healing I often then progress them into pilates work to help them get stronger with Contrology. They both focus on full body movement and integration through the nervous system and patterning and re-patterning movement in a very developmentally based way. Time flies when you're having fun. It was during this training that I was first exposed to foam rollers. we used them to support the knees and ankles and some standing balance work. I started using them for self massage and used them at my office and pilates studio and on Broadway with the shows I covered that way developing a whole unique program and exercises to use them and the rest is history

One day left to register for Joe's Archival Greek Statue Mat Class. Join me for a 1/2 hour of learning Balance, Control, Coordination Strengthening Joe's way.... (well one of them that hasn't been taught before) This is one of many series from the archives that have been lost over time. These standing exercises are in some ways easier than some of the other standing work Joe taught and at the same time harder depending on your imbalances. This 10 week series will not only help you improve your balance but will help you start to find your inner statue connecting the skeleton/muscles/nervous system to flow and concentrate a full body gestalt in look and function. You need to tighten a muscle to relax a muscle Thursdays 1:00PM EST January 14 thru March 18 Single class $25 10 class Series $200 Register here: https://clients.mindbodyonline.com/classic/ws A recording will be available for 7 days if you can not make the live class.

Super excited for this archival pilates presentation! The Study of Joe’s Original Studio: Part 4 Observing a Session with Joe... With Sean Gallagher and Elaine Ewing 1 hr $50 This class includes never-before-presented or published archival images as well as images from Parts 1-3 of this class series. We will start by observing a selection of images from a session that took place in the 1950’s in Joe’s original NYC studio in which the client uses the reformer, mat, spine corrector, cadillac, guillotine, a ped-o-pul. What imbalances do we notice in the client across the systems and how does Joe address them? What exercises does he give, her? What tactic cues does he use, and what effect do his cues have on the imbalances? In addition to observations from the session, we will discuss the possible explanations for the imbalances and their causes. In addition to the session in Joe’s studio, this class includes a special series of photos from a 1950s voice lesson the client takes with William Herman, the famous voice teacher who was known for his unique ways of incorporating props and apparatus into voice lessons, including pilates apparatus. These photos will show not only Herman’s use of apparatus during the lesson but also continue the observation of the client’s imbalances as they reappear. Additional research conducted about Herman’s style of voice training and how and why he uses the apparatus in the ways that he does will be provided. This is Part 4 of a series. If you would like recordings of Parts 1-3, please email [email protected]. This class is available live or as a recording for 7 days. To receive the recording, register for the class and then email the studio to request the recording.
