Two favorites! I don’t think I’ve had a more beautiful vintage Of Montevertine than this 2018. The absolute benchmark for Tuscan Sangiovese. Just a stunning wine.

New is in! @marcio.lopes.winemaker Vinho Verde tinto, 50% 7 week carbonic maceration, 50% foot crushed and pressed after 5 days. 80% Cainho Tinto, Pedral & Alvarelhao, 20% crazy random Portuguese unknown varieties from 80 year old pergola trained vines. Dropping cru bojo vibes in Vinho Verde!!!

Recently we were able to taste a three year vertical of @krugerrumpf Abtei trocken as well as the 2019 Im Pitterberg Riesling Kabinett. What is coming from this domain is something special, and we want to spread the word. Special sites among the great Nahe, old vines, steep slopes, slate, quartz, and loess soils. A younger generation at the helm, with a passion for not recreating, but dialing in the amazing terroir and family vineyard holdings he has to work with. A singl...e Foudre is Abtei is made each year, from the oldest vines and steepest slopes in the vineyard, planted in 1937. His 2019s are absolutely electric, and rival his neighbors who have seemed to overshadow this estate for a little too long. But not for much longer. At 8 years old, in Spain, for his communion, Pedro asked his mother for a knife. That’s how long @pedroliebanamasterham has been slicing jamon. By way of Los Angeles, Pedro and his wife now live in Ithaca, and opened up La Bodega in the Dewitt Mall. Among an assortment of Spanish cheeses and dried goods, you can now get the finest Serrano and Iberico Jamon, sliced to order. Pedro also has a small menu of sandwiches catered around this amazing ham. He is a #MasterCarver, and it was awesome to finally stop in and meet him. When you visit, stop by the store for some wine to pair, we would love nothing more than to pair the perfect wine with his food.

Two favorites Fleuries have landed over the past few weeks. Coudert’s Clos de la Roilette and Dutraive’s Domaine de la Grand Coeur. Both iconic in their own right, at the top of their class. Through the years I’ve had my mind blown by both of these producers. It’s always a joy when they arrive once per year.

@smokewagonbourbon is here! The straight bourbon, and the uncut. Both are produced with a good amount of rye in the mash, and the uncut consists of bourbon aged up to 12 years. Excited to continue to add and grow our craft spirits here. Check in regularly with us, so much cool stuff comes and goes!

Small drop of #envinate wines hit last week. After all these years, it never feels old when we get these in. Always have been some@of our favorite wines from spin and Portugal. If only allocations weren’t so small. Benje blanco (listan bianco) and Benje Tinto (listan Prieto) from high elevation, old vines parcels on the Canary Islands. And a small drop of Albahrathe amazing value comprised of mostly Garnacha Tintorrera. #dontsleep

Flora & Fauna red blend from @idlewildwines tonight. We’ve been carrying their wines off and on for years now, and they never disappoint. An early complaint I had when California producers made wines from Italian varieties were that they were always far too expensive and never stood up to their European counterparts. Not that idlewild was ever guilty of that, but I’ll shut up now, because they continue to nail these varieties and price them competitively. This Barbera/Dolcett...o/Nebbiolo blend is absolutely delicious. Inky dark, fresh, lively, plums, blackberries and purple flowers, seamless, with the finest velvety tannins and perfect acidity. For $24 there’s no need to go to piedmont, as this gives equal pleasure and varietal character for the money. I’m drinking this with the slightest chill on this cool evening and it’s perfect. It’s exciting to see how California is doing so well with so many different grape varieties these days, when in the right hands. #flxciderweek starts next week. It’s one of my favorite times of the year. We celebrate the amazing cideries we have at our fingertips here, some of the best in the country. I’m bummed do not hear Ian from @blackdiamondfarm talk about his travels, and museum of apples he grows, or steve from @southhillcider talk about the places he goes to forage and the fruit he’s found, showing up with a pickup truck full of fruit, or eric from @redbyrdcider talk about his transformation t...o biodynamics and the apple blends that gives his ciders this mindblowing cut of acidity and otherworldly aromas, or autumn and Ezra from @evescidery talking about their ice cider process and how they’ve grown since being one if the original Finger Lakes cideries and their passion for the roots of traditional cider making. I won’t miss John from @blackduckcidery’s pony tail, but I’ll miss him having to painstaking explain why his ciders are so reminiscent of the wondrous ciders of Spain, and how he has passionately created his own style that stands tall among the rest, and I’ll miss his funky ass ciders blowing peoples mindsthey are so delicious. I’ll miss the passion of garret from @flxciderhouse talking about his organic farm and how he transformed his land into a full on ecosystem full of young fruit trees and the amazing work they’ve done to make one of the most fantastic destinations for cider around. I’ll miss having them all under one roof for the annual kickoff tasting we do at the shop, which would have been in its 6th year this year, and seeing the fans come out in droves to meet them. It may be sad, but we can still sit here and marvel at what these local apples do in the hands of these talented people who are so focused on these ancient varieties and continuing to propel our region into the upper echelon of cider production. We’ll miss you guys, but we may have a few virtual tricks up our sleeve for anyone interested. Don’t forget to eat a massive amount of local apples and drink gallons of local cider this fall everyone. The highly anticipated wines and ciders from @floralterranes have come in. We have a limited amount of each of their wild foraged ciders availableeach from a different terroir of Long Island. They only produce about 30 cases of each! Yikes! We’re excited to have these available, holler at us if you’d like some #realcider in your life. The ciders are available in our online store for purchase and there are descriptions of each from that @vomboden dude available there.
