"Democracies depend on the restraint of power, and when they fail, it is often because power shakes free of those restraints. The peaceful transition represented in this inauguration demonstrates the resilience of our threatened democracy, and that resiliency sends a message of hope for the future of our nation," notes CCNY President and political scientist Vincent G. Boudreau. Read more reflections from CUNY scholars: https://www1.cuny.edu//cuny-scholars-weigh-in-on-a-histor/

On this unusually consequential Inauguration Day, CUNY welcomes Joe Biden's administration and their promise of leadership committed to social justice, public e...ducation, and leading the nation out of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our new President is himself a graduate of public higher education. Our new Vice President Kamala Harris today breaks barriers of gender and race and is the first graduate of an Historically Black University to take the oath of national elective office. And our First Lady Dr. Jill Biden is a lifelong educator who for nearly three decades has taught in community colleges and plans to continue doing so while in the White House. We look ahead to a new day of equality, justice and peace for our country. See more

On Martin Luther King Day, The City College of New York honors Dr. King and his vital and lasting legacy. Long held in memory on this campus, where both he and Coretta Scott King gave Commencement addresses, Dr. King and his message of racial justice and nonviolence are with us powerfully today. Watch this CUNY video featuring the photography of then CCNY student Stephen Somerstein chronicling King's historic 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights march. https://youtu.be/MiHG26_gHpM

CCNY has changed the lives of so many, not only through education and degrees earned but also because of lives connected on campus. In preparation for Valentine's Day, the Office of Institutional Advancement and Communications is taking on a new project: gathering and sharing love stories of couples who met at (or because of) CCNY. All alumni, staff, faculty, and current students are invited to submit their story and photo(s) by emailing [email protected]. Thank you!

We’ve never doubted the strength, resilience, and grit of our CUNY community. But if there’s one lesson we learned from COVID-19, it’s that each and every one of us can do our part to bring back the city we love. #MaskUpCUNY to show the skeptics that you can never kill New York.
