As the country waits for election results, there are a lot of emotions to manage. We're holding two events today to come together as a community: at 1 p.m. we’ll host a Community Response to the 2020 Election webinar and at 4 p.m., we'll hold "Knight Lights: A Post-Election Gathering in Two Parts" on the Campus Green. See the election resource page for all of the information: https://www.strose.edu//counse/navigating-election-season/

Professor Mary Ann Schultz McLoughlin ’63 has been with The College of Saint Rose for more than half of its existence. Entering as a student in 1959 and joining the mathematics faculty in 1965, Dr. McLoughlin serves as a bridge between what the founding Sisters envisioned and the institution Saint Rose has become. Today, McLoughlin’s stature as the longest-serving faculty member (55 years) is recognized at the end of many campus forums, when the speaker says, Yes, Mary Ann and offers her the first question. #WhyIServe As the parent of Marcos Perez (‘22), I chose to volunteer my time to help other parents with their student's transition into the college experience at Saint Rose. I have had the honor of speaking at several open-house events, both on-campus and online, to share our experience and provide some insight to incoming families. As an admin of the Saint Rose Parent Group page, my goal is to encourage and provide helpful guidance to families as they navigate this college... journey with their student. So why do I do it? I serve because I chose to give back to Saint Rose after the attention, support, and care they provided us in 2018 when we began our journey with our son. I want to help spread that same sense of community to our next generation of Saint Rose families. -Pedro Perez (Father of Marcos Perez ’22) Want to share your story about community service at Saint Rose? The words to the Saint Rose alma mater came quickly to music student Winifred McGowan Quinn, a member of the first graduating class. Her legacy lives on each time it is performed. Winifred McGowan Quinn ’24, a talented musician and a member of the College’s founding class, wrote what would become the Saint Rose alma mater in minutes. As we continue to mark our centennial year with our 100 Years, 100 Faces series, in which we celebrate those who have contributed to our story or represent a significant period in our history. Next up is Al Sterling ’71, one of the first 30 male undergraduates to graduate from Saint Rose after the College went coeducational in 1969 but that’s not the only remarkable thing about him. He already had much more life experience than most students, having enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserve while in high school, served several years in the regular Navy as a qualified nuclear submarine specialist, and sustained a life-threatening injury serving aboard the ballistic missile submarine U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt, resulting in him being designated permanently disabled. Read more here: https://www.strose.edu//the-start-of-a-fully-coeducationa/

#WhyIServe I think that it's really important to help people and want to help people because your impact on them is so much more than you realize. It just brings so much joy to not only you, but to the people you're helping. But then there's also the side of, like, I want to do more, because you see how bad some people are living and how like terrible their circumstances are. -Arianna Paul ’20 Want to share your story about community service at Saint Rose?
