On Sunday, November 1, join us at 7:30pm for a vocal faculty chamber recital, "Her Songs, Her Stories, " part of our celebration of the centennial of women's suffrage in the US. The program features works by composers from all eras and backgrounds, including Crane professor Ivette Herryman Rodriguez, whose work Quisiera, will be sung by mezzo-soprano Lorraine Yaros-Sullivan. Links and concert information are available on our streaming webpage https://www.potsdam.edu//c/crane-school-music-live-concert. #CraneFaculty

At the Crane School of Music, this has been unusual semester for our many guests, whose events are typically open to the public. We continue to bring in many visitors virtually to campus, but access to their Zooms are limited to students, so we've not said much about them on Facebook. Here's just a taste of our unusual term - a sampling of some of the guests interacting with Crane students this week: Saxophonist Idit Shner (pictured) Tuba/Euphonium artist Gretchen Renshaw Jam...es Bassist Carlos Henriquez Trumpeter Joe Gransden Chris Swartz, from the FATA Booking Agency, presenting to Music Business students Composer Julie Giroux And, also, our own Dr. Lonel Woods presented a special session on Directing Musical Theatre in Grades 7-12. #MakeItCrane

Alumni News: We heard recently from Helen and Steven Casano (92), with the wonderful news that Steven received a 2020 Teacher of Distinction award from the Royal Conservatory of Music. RCM Teachers of Distinction Awards are given to leaders in the field of music education across North America, recognizing them for their contributions of creativity, dedication, innovation, and passion. Steven is one of just eight teachers so recognized this year. Steven earned degrees in Piano... Performance and Music Education from Crane, and then a Master’s degrees in Ethnomusicology and Music Librarianship from the University of Hawai’i. He is on the music faculty of the Punahou Music School in Honolulu, where he teaches piano and music theory, and he has served on the executive boards of the Hawai’i Music Teacher’s Association and the Honolulu Piano Teachers’ Association. Steven wrote about receiving the award, "I attribute this to my time at Crane...specifically with my piano studies with Frank Iogha. Thank you Crane!" Thank YOU Steven, and congratulations! #CraneAlum

Former Faculty News: Kirk Severtson, long-time vocal coach and opera conductor at Crane, was awarded the 2019-2020 American Prize in Conducting for the College/University Opera Division for the world premiere production of "Mayo" by Tom Cipullo. "Mayo" was a commission by the Crane School through the Domenic J. Pellicciotti Opera Composition Prize. The fall 2018 premiere production at Crane was also named the 201920 recipient of The American Prize in Opera Performance, college/university division. It will be hard to top this extremely special and moving event, but we will try - the next Pellicciotti Prize premiere is in the early planning stages now. #CraneFaculty #CraneOpera
