This holiday season, please consider donating to the Literacy Assistance Center (https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/LiteracyAssistanceCent). In 2018, the LAC provided professional development and instructional coaching to over 500 adult literacy educators in NYC (and to hundreds more through presentations we offered across the country); graduated 38 adult ESOL teachers from our Teaching English as a Second Language to Adults certificate program; expanded our support for th...e more than 150 adult literacy programs throughout NYS that use our data management system; leveraged our Investing in Quality report to enhance our work with program leaders -- and to advocate for greater investment in adult literacy services. And, this fall, we launched the Literacy and Justice Initiative, a new project designed to build a broad-based movement for adult literacy education by framing adult literacy as part of wider movements for social and economic justice, including the immigrants’ rights and workers’ rights movements. For more information on any of our work, please feel free to contact me at [email protected]. Thank you in advance for your support! See more

This year's list of Rhodes Scholars is remarkable for many reasons. Almost two-thirds of the recipients are women and nearly half are first-generation Americans... or immigrants. Harvard University student Jin Park has become the first recipient of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals to earn a Rhodes Scholarship. See more

Yesterday morning, New York Counts 2020 had an impressive showing of support from more than 25 New York Counts 2020 organizational members, launched its campaign for state funding of census work, particularly of community-based organizations' efforts to get out the count (BOTC) in 2020. Thanks to ALL who came out. Backed by the findings of Fiscal Policy Institute's Report, we are asking the state to appropriate at least $40 million ($2.00 per New York resident) for community ...based organizations to do the critical outreach necessary to maximize a complete count in New York State. We need each member organization of New York Counts 2020 to please circulate widely this online petition, bit.ly/fundcensus to your members, friends, and colleagues living in New York State to sign. When we go to Albany for Lobby Day on March 5, 2019, the petition will show legislators how widespread support for funding of community based organizations is and how critically important they are to get out the count in 2020. An accurate and complete count impacts ALL New Yorkers! Thanks to everyone for your anticipated action in making this campaign a success!!
