The Leadershift Project 10.02.2021

4 TYPES OF FAILURE (well, really 3 + a faker) + WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT: 1 I f-ed up intentionally This is knowing better, and choosing differently.... Which is why, I can’t call this failure. This is a CHOICE. Whether that be doing something illegal, immoral, or something you just know you shouldn’t do. The solution here is to make the right choices going forward (if you haven’t been terminated yet!) 2 I f-ed up unintentionally. This is when you’ve made an honest mistake. These experiences are AWESOME. I can’t tell you how much you learn from them. There’s not much you can do to prevent these unintentional screw-ups other than shift your perspective around them. Instead of dreading these moments, CELEBRATE and LEARN from them! 3 I was just careless This might happen because ...you didn’t double check your work ...or you were moving too fast ...or you were burnt out and unable to do your best. This is totally human and not something to be overly hard on yourself about.. The solution? First, pause and identify the root cause of your error Sometimes, the cause is straightforward and thus a relatively simple fix, like setting aside more time to proofread or running it by a trusted colleague. However, other times, the root cause may be traced to more systemic patterns in your life, and you would benefit from coaching or training to help shift your productivity or self-care habits, for example. 4 And finally, failure in the process of INNOVATING. This is what I call creative failure and it’s the kind I encourage. This might happen when you try something new, take a big risk, or go ALL in... and the outcome is uncertain. This is HEALTHY and when failure should be EXPECTED, not avoided. The more you fail ...the more you learn ...the more you refine your path ...the faster you get to where you want to go. The moral of this post? Stop avoiding failure, CELEBRATE it. It’s a sign you’re moving forward What type of failure do you experience most often? 1, 2, 3 or 4?

When was the last time you showed gratitude to your team? To your managers and leaders? This Academy of Management graphic reveals a link between gratitude and employee satisfaction. Expressing gratitude directly improves emotional health which spillover into the workplace to improve relationships with colleagues and enhanced team performance. Employees and teams suffer if humility and gratitude is absent in the leadership.

I have FAILED my way to a successful business. At one point or another, I have done EVERYTHING wrong, and I still got here. My point is this: There is absolutely no mistake that will keep you from the success you want.... I know it’s scary, but ALWAYS play BIG. What’s one way you’re playing BIG right now? PS: I’m gonna share the 4 types of failure on Wednesday and how you can be better prepared to tackle those instances. Stay tuned PSS: Here’s a pic of me and a poster I’ve got in my office... it’s always there to remind me to step out of my comfort zone DAILY.

These are my favorite LeaderShift Tools for Trying TImes: Before you speak, let your words pass through three gates: Is is true?, Is it necessary? and Is it kind? attributed to Rumi, Socrates, Buddha, others When you're having negative/judgmental/critical/unhelpful thoughts: From Loving What Is, by Byron Katie - applying "The Work," which is 4 questions and a turnaround:... 1. Is it true? (Yes or no. If no, move to question 3.) 2. Can you absolutely know that it’s true? (Yes or no.) 3. How do you react, what happens, when you believe that thought? 4. Who would you be without the thought? ->Then turn the thought around. Where/how is this thought true for YOU? Arbinger Institute concepts from Anatomy of Peace - Do you have a heart at war or a heart at peace?

It's only been one day since Perfectionism Detox kicked off, but this crew are well on their way to Jimmy Buffet levels of chill I was so pumped from yesterday's session that I started working on the next HELL YEAH ACADEMY course, Career Shift Accelerator. I know we’re in a new year...and yet...the crazy of 2020 is still lingering. But here’s a reminder: You can turn ANY problem into a solution. What’s a problem you’re struggling with? I might have help!

[If you like achieving goals, you’ll want to bookmark this!] Just like I do with my corporate clients, I encourage everyone to do some sort of personal strategic plan to be intentional about the upcoming year. Here’s a two part process for getting this done.... Part 1 is about your mindset and Part 2 is about your goals. WARNING: I’m not responsible for the miracles that can happen when you implement (and actually commit to!) this system PS: This is also a great exercise to do on your own, with your partner, or with a group of friends over cheese and wine You can even do it virtually

Dear Leader, You made it through the end of 2020... and I know it wasn’t easy. Offices closed.... Your kids stayed home for -- what felt like -- 10 years. And the world you knew so well changed over night. So you .. Pivoted #officiallyhatethatword Yes, you struggled with tech. ...But you showed up and figured it out. Yes, you struggled with work-life balance. ...But you showed up and figured it out. Yes, you struggled with learning new ways to do your job. ...But you showed up and figured it out. Yes, you struggled with feeling like an ineffective #workfromhome leader. .But you showed up and figured it out. Yes, you struggled with stress. But You Showed Up And Figured It Out In a funny way, 2020 woke you up to your power. It made you realize whatever the heck is thrown your way, you’re strong enough to figure it out. And that, my friend, is something to celebrate. Love, Shani PS: The journey isn’t over, it’s just beginning. And it’s gonna be a good one. See you in 2021! I’ve got some exciting things up my sleeve
