A hard shifting outboard is something that should not be ignored. This is a symptom of lower unit trouble. Seal failure is a common cause. This will allow water to enter or oil to escape witch will lead to improper function of your clutch and wear of your gears . This will eventually lead to destruction of drive gears and a very expensive fix. Luckily for this customer we caught it before the worst happened and we were able to repair the unit by just replacing the seals.

Previous owner of this Yamaha 130 was having trim & tilt problems so he decided to loosen the hydronic line & use it to manually trim his engine. Needless to say they weren’t in the best of shape.
