*Front Porch Friday* There is so much history to be told about Sharon Springs and The Roseboro and I love telling those stories! Ron Ketelsen, Owner, Roseboro ...Hotel It began when Ron attended the Sharon Springs Victorian Holiday Celebration in early December of 2013 and fell in love with this unique Village. During his visit, he discovered that a massive historic hotel called the Roseboro was for sale and for Ron, it looked like a huge opportunity and he bought it! This fascinating and glorious hotel has been a labor of love for Ron with many challenges from that time on. One story Ron retells is how the original hotel was built on whiskey barrels filled with concrete. Over time, the barrels sunk into the ground over three feet. A few barrels can still be seen in the basement today. The hotel needed to be jacked up and new concrete piers and footings put in place. All of the new footings in the basement had to be hand dug - dirt and rock had to be hand carried out in buckets. Since the Roseboro could only be jacked up a 1/2 a day, it took over a year to complete! By 2016 Ron was able to launch Miss Lodema's Tea Room to much applause. As evident by the courtyard of The Roseboro, Ron is a Master Gardner! As Chair of the Sharon Springs Chamber of Commerce Ron has combined his love of gardens and community participation to organize next summer’s Sharon Springs Garden Party & Flower Show which will take place on June 21, 2021, much of the Festival at the Roseboro. Hopefully by then 2020’s anxieties will all be fading memories and Sharon Springs will bloom brightly along with The Roseboro! Be sure to mark your calendars! Thank you, Ron. We Are Now Open for Tours for Potential New Members by Appointment to Take Advantage of Our Post-Pandemic Special! Despite giving the health department everythi...ng they asked for--none of which are required by state--weeks ago, they still have not inspected the club. Thus, we are opening anyway, for tours only, and we will open the club to all current members to start working-out later next week. Keep apprised of announcements here on the Facebook page. Due to the Governor Cuomo's current fitness facility laws, masks MUST be worn to enter the building, as well as 100% of the time while inside the building, including working-out and while using any piece of aerobic equipment. The health department has been lurking outside of other facilities and businesses, specifically fining them to raise revenue. Please wear your mask so that they don't shut-us-down, which we understand to be their mandate. Additionally, we will be limiting occupation to only 15%, and we have added post-pandemic protocols for superior sanitation. Rest assured that we will still be one of the cleanest and most sterile businesses in the county, as we always have been and were before the Pandemic! Post-pandemic sale, 15% discount on all monthly fees for new members only, OR, for current members who wish to renew their memberships early. *Front Porch Friday* There is a sense of optimism here that is often missing these days Tony Daou, Owner, Black Cat Cafe, Sharon Springs, NY Almost sixteen ye...ars ago, Black Cat Café opened at 195 Main Street and is often thought of as an anchor or hub of the Village of Sharon Springs. With a warm and friendly atmosphere where neighbors become friends and the food is innovative and local the Black Cat Café is a welcoming place for all that enter. It is also a meeting place for many who come to spend time in the Village and use the Café as a jumping-off place. It is well known that the Black Cat Café is stable, consistent yet flexible and able to change in the challenging times we have faced in 2020. It takes a community of like-minded people that really care about each other to sustain businesses like the Black Cat Cafe Tony explains. As we all face the fact that things are not the same as they were, we also realize there is still hope. Tony is actually really excited that people in Sharon Springs as well as his own Café, are able to pivot stay open, stay smart and stay welcoming.
