Two years after the Oct. 26, 2018 shooting on Utica Street in Oswego, the alleged gunman, Thomas Schrader, is still awaiting trial after more than a half dozen pre-trial court appearances and the prolonged closure of the state court system due to COVID-19. Schrader, now 60, is accused of gunning down a 34-year-old black man in the street following a traffic dispute that started across town as a verbal altercation and escalated to a shooting. Police said Schrader shot the victim four times in the torso after the two men exited their vehicles on East Utica Street near the intersection with Duer Street. Initially scheduled to start in early April, jury selection in the case is tentatively scheduled for Dec. 7.
