The Poughkeepsie Skatepark 15.11.2020

FYI I'm trying to figure out how to edit the name of the page right now. I haven't updated it in about three years...

The Poughkeepsie Skatepark 02.11.2020

Well, that escalated quickly... If you don't know already, the city finally took notice of the large holes that had developed in many of the ramps over the past year or so (due to heavy use, which isn't necessarily a bad thing!). The announcement that the park was closed indefinitely was made two days ago Wednesday. Yesterday however, the city took the rather drastic step of piling all the ramps up in a corner to eliminate use of the park while it was closed. In my opinion ...it wasn't the best move, because if the ramps were repairable at all it was while they were in place. Now, it looks as if the park ramps may or may not be able to be salvaged. Now, the ramps were 14 years old, and definitely outdated as far as skatepark design goes, so perhaps this will be an impetus to get new stuff to skate down here at Waryas. However, the city is not in great shape financially, so who knows how long we will have to wait for new stuff. The timing of all of this sucks as summer has just started. There is a City of Poughkeepsie Common Council meeting this coming Monday, July 11th at 630pm at City Hall. Info: http://ow.ly/m5313021CGX Everyone who uses or even just supports the park should attend the meeting, and sign up to speak during the public comment period if you want. If you can't make it, be sure to call or email city hall to express your support for the park and its future.

Hello Poughkeepsie Skaters (and Bikers)! I got a FB message yesterday morning from someone in the know about waterfront development that said that the skatepark in Waryas Park will be relocated at some unknown point in the future to Eastman Park (behind the old YMCA). I went to the Common Council meeting last night and addressed the Mayor on this issue, as myself or others directly involved with the operation and maintenance of the park were never informed that it would be ...moving. Now I am not necessarily opposed to it being moved, IF it means a new and better park! (meaning real concrete not prefab ramps) I was told by the Mayor that the process was in the initial pre-planning stages and we (meaning) the skaters would be involved in the process. Stay tuned to this page for updates and tell your FB friends to LIKE the page and ADD IT TO THEIR INTERESTS so they see all the posts! Thanks, Colin R.
