Reasoned Thoughts & Conclusions about Covid & the Currently Available Covid Vaccines By Eliot Fiks Let’s be honest. Unless you’re a scientist all you can do is ...read as much as you are able from sources you trust and come to your own hopefully logical conclusions. Below are mine: To say All Vaccines are good is by definition false. To say All Vaccines are bad is likewise by definition false Vaccines have a long history. Some have been great and some not so great. Each one can only be logically viewed individually. We have zero information on how effective any of the current vaccines are. Effectiveness can only be determined in the field over time. We do have information on how efficacious the current vaccines are. The word efficacious is a predictive conclusion in this case based on a statistical analysis of vaccine trial data. Ok, so the current Covid vaccines are 90 something percent efficacious, but efficacious at what? They claim to be efficacious at preventing symptomsof Covid. Their trials did not differentiate between mild and severe symptoms. That doesn’t mean that they won’t actually prevent infection, it just means that they will only know over time. How did they come to the 90 something percent efficacious number? In the case of Pfizer they took some 43,000 odd volunteers and waited for 170 to get symptoms of Covid with a positive test. They then ascertained how many of the 170 got placebo (162) and how many got vaccine (8). From a statistical analysis of the 2 numbers comes the 90 something percent. The rest of the some 43,000 volunteers were not tested for Covid. Therefore they don’t know how many of them may have had asymptomatic Covid. For more detail read https://www.nytimes.com//h/covid-vaccine-95-effective.html They also don’t know how long the increased immune power will last or whether it will prevent you from transmitting the disease to someone else or any possible long term effects. The Covid vaccines currently in distribution are all using a very new technology call mRNA. The m stands for messenger. In basic terms they send your body instructions to make a small portion of the virus that can’t possibly hurt you. From there your body recognizes it and is able to build up the ability to mount an immune response to it. Are the current mRNA Covid vaccines a form of gene therapy? Yes. However that has nothing to do with altering your DNA or any other scary sounding things. For a more detailed explanation, read this https://www.forbes.com//covid-19-vaccines-cant-alter-you/ Are these vaccines the answer to all our prayers? Unfortunately almost definitely not. In part because of all the above unanswered questions. In part because their cold chain requirements make them impractical for widespread distribution in third world countries and as long as any country is left out the whole thing doesn’t succeed. Luckily other more traditional vaccine candidates that are cheaper and more practical for widespread distribution are being worked on. Is someone probably making a buttload of money from these vaccines? Probably yes. Does that mean that they are by definition bad or a scam? Definitely not. They are almost definitely an important piece of the long road to returning to some kind of normal. The vaccine is basically a synthetic aid to help your body boost its own natural immunity to Covid 19. Could there be/have been cheaper, easier, faster alternatives or additions to these vaccines? Damn straight! Repurposing existing drugs has not been fully explored and offers potentially great promise. In addition there is compelling evidence that building up immunity naturally with adequate Vit D levels, Zinc and other immune builders could be an important factor. Is mass rapid testing still an important part of the answer? For God’s sake (and ours) YES! Let’s get the show on the road! For the best view on this entire subject, read anything you can get your hands on by William Haseltine. He’s a former Harvard Medical School professor as well as Cancer and HIV researcher along with a bunch of other impressive accomplishments. He regularly writes for Forbes and many other respected journals. He’s the only one I’ve found who consistently writes articles on the topic that are fair and reasoned. He’s critical but clearly has no axe to grind. From all my reading he is the only person I consistently trust on this topic. See more

We sold out of both Cioppino and Split Pea Soup last weekend, so we're making up fresh batches to keep everyone nice and warm on this especially cold day!

Whole in the Wall Restaurant 27.12.2020

Our special this weekend is Cioppino, an Italian-American seafood stew with roots in San Francisco. This savory tomato-based dish incorporates Eliot's homemade seafood bone broth, monkfish (our lobster-y East Coast sub for West Coast Dungeness), shrimp, and bay scallops, accompanied by onions, yellow and orange peppers, eggplant and mushrooms. Gluten-free. Served over your choice of imported Italian Farfalle pasta, jasmine rice, or organic brown rice.

Dropping off insulated boxes or freezer packs? We've gotten overloaded and for now can no longer accept them. We will put out the word if this changes. Thank you for all your help and support!
