The Mustard Seed. 30 He said, To what shall we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable can we use for it? 31 It is like a mustard seed that, when it is sown in the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on the earth. 32 But once it is sown, it springs up and becomes the largest of plants and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the sky can dwell in its shade. 33 With many such parables he spoke the word to them as they were able to understand it. 34 Without parables he did not speak to them, but to his own disciples he explained everything in private.

McCahill First, all priests administering ashes this year will give one blessing to all in the church and sprinkle the ashes with holy water. Second, the priests will wash their hands and put on (or continue to wear) a face mask, and, without speaking, sprinkle the ashes over the crown of the head of each parishioner rather than touching them on the forehead. According to Bishop Kelly of the Dallas Archdiocese, "This is a practice that has roots deep in the tradition of the church and is to this day the customary practice of the distribution of ashes in many other countries, including Italy and Poland.

Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel Mk 1:40-45 40 A leper came to Jesus and kneeling down begged him and said, If you wish, you can make me clean. 41 Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand, touched him, and said to him, I do will it. Be made clean. 42 The leprosy left him immediately, and he was made clean. 43 Then, warning him sternly, he dismissed him at once. 44 He said to him, See that you tell no one anything, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses prescribed; that will be proof for them. 45 The man went away and began to publicize the whole matter. He spread the report abroad so that it was impossible for Jesus to enter a town openly. He remained outside in deserted places, and people kept coming to him from everywhere

Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not? 18 But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, Why put me to the test, you hypocrites? 19 Show me the coin for the tax. And they brought him a denarius. 20 And Jesus said to them, Whose likeness and inscription is this? 21 They said, Caesar’s. Then he said to them,Therefore, render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and to God the things that are God’s. 22 When they heard it, they marveled. And they left him and went away.
