Thompson Health is currently administering doses of COVID-19 vaccine that have been designated by New York State as second doses only. All of our existing vaccine has been allotted and we eagerly await future shipments from the state. Once we receive those shipments, we will announce how, where and when eligible community members may sign up for first doses from Thompson. If you are eligible to receive the vaccine, you may wish to visit county public health department websites and the websites of area retail pharmacies for potential clinic availability. Thank you!

The Best of the Finger Lakes Awards were presented during a virtual awards ceremony late last week and we were excited to learn that our health system won the awards for Assisted Living (Clark Meadows), Doctor/Practice (Canandaigua Medical Group), Hospital, Nurse (Brittany Tapscott), Nursing Home (M.M. Good morning, everyone. As you may have heard, a number of community agencies are hosting a Foodlink distribution in Canandaigua on Monday, Feb. 1. It was originally to have been held at our hospital, but due to the fluid nature of ongoing COVID-19 vaccine clinics - sometimes planned with less than a day's notice as vaccine becomes available - the distribution event has moved to a nearby church and the time has changed, too. It will now be at the Zion Fellowship, 5188 Bristol Road, beginning at noon on the 1st. As you can see from the flier, there are other distributions coming up in the area as well!

We appreciate our associates, and every year, we present a holiday gift to each one. This year was no different! On Dec. 8, we held our annual drive-up event, and each associate could choose a turkey, a fresh ham or a vegetable lasagna. In a year when so many things are unfamiliar, it was especially nice to carry on with this time-honored tradition.

As our staff continues to care for community members with COVID-19, F.F. Thompson Hospital has to date provided vaccines to more than 3,000 area residents, using 100 percent of the doses allotted by the state as well as additional doses acquired through a regional hub. At our skilled-nursing facility bearing her name, the portrait of M.M. Ewing is gazing down over the latest initiative to brighten residents' lives. Each "bulb" on the trees has the name of a resident. Staff members are taking bulbs off the trees and purchasing gifts for the residents, with Recreation Therapy providing suggestions and ideas so everyone will receive something they'll truly enjoy and appreciate. It's just another reason why our associates are the absolute best. With everything they're doing and have been doing month after month during this pandemic, they are always searching for - and finding - ways to do more.
