Tiashoke Farm 08.11.2020

The colors this season have been unmatched and was fortunate enough to catch this beautiful light at the end of another long day on the farm. Good night, Tiashoke. Tomorrow's another day.

Nothing goes to waste...especially when you have animals with four stomachs (technically compartments). Our beef cows (and our pigs) love to eat left over or spoiled pumpkins! They lap them up, seeds and all! Pumpkins can provide a good source of energy and offer some protein and minerals as well. #wellrounded #eatyourveggies #goodnutrition #wastenot

Time to spread the poop. Not anyone's favorite task - for us or our neighbors - but it's necessary to recycle the nutrients produced by our cows and give back to the soil that we just used to grow our crops. This vicous cycle actually makes us more sustainable in that we don't have to rely as heavily on manufactured fertilizers and we are aiding the land by giving back not only nutrients, but organic matter as well.

Not all angels have wings. Some have whiskers.

Gone tractoring. Today, three generations are headed for a tractor drive on the back roads with fellow tractor enthusiasts. Be on the lookout for a bunch of antique tractors tooling around. #sundaydrive

We'll be at The Farm Stand at Tiashoke all weekend selling pumpkins! If you haven't gotten your fall decor yet, this is the weekend to do so! We will also have cider donuts on Saturday morning and wood fired pizza on Sunday. Follow the farm stands page for more info about what's happening! Please note: our pumpkins are not in Buskirk...they are in Easton at 11822 NYS Route 40, Schagticoke.

Nothing sexy or artistic about this pic, but this beast has saved the day...in fact, it's saved the past two days! A sudden storm swept through the area on Wednesday leaving us without power for nearly 48 hours and counting. With 1,000 cows counting on us, we need power for milking, wells, lights, and so much more! We're thankful to have made the investment a couple years ago to provide this safety net for times like these. We're also thankful for all the men and women working tirelessly to get us back on line! Until then, we will welcome the constant hum of the generator. #nopower If any neighbors are in need of anything, ease don't hesitate to reach out! We'll leave the light on for you.

Look what arrived last night after the storm and with no power? 24 little piglets! We are so blessed! Both moms are doing well and all babies seem to be thriving! It's crazy how resilient these creatures are! Seconds after birth and in some cases umbilical cord still attached, they wobble over to find a nipple and start consuming much needed colostrum from mom. Two minutes after birth, they are already fighting for position with brother or sister as they want the same nipple, even though there are a dozen more to choose from. So fun to witness! And so small!
