NYC Kindergarten Admissions Update Gifted & Talented Programs Was your child born in 2013 or 2014? For students entering Kindergarten in 2018 (children born in 2013), there is still time to prepare for the Hunter College Elementary School (HCES) and NYC Gifted and Talented (G&T) exams . ... For students entering Kindergarten in 2019 (children born in 2014), now is a great time to start learning about and enrolling in test preparation classes. For HCES, there is only one entry point for admissions, which begins with a test taken in the calendar year before a child starts Kindergarten. For NYC G&T programs, while there are multiple entry points through 3rd grade, the number of available seats drops off dramatically after Kindergarten, which is why many families are preparing as early as possible for the exam. This year, 2,366 G&T offers were made for students entering Kindergarten in 2018; for students entering the 3rd grade, only 301 seats were offered citywide.
