Tioga County Sheriff's Office 24.01.2021

On January 7, 2021 at 8:20 AM the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division arrested Misty M. Smith, age 28 of 535 E. Chemung St, Waverly NY 14892 for the charges of Arson in the Second Degree (C Felony), Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree (A Misdemeanor) and Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree (D Felony) following a four month long investigation of a suspicious structure fire that occurred on August, 22nd 2020 at a residence on Camptown Road, in th...e Town of Barton. In the same incident, several motor vehicles were also spray-painted with profanity. Smith was arraigned at CAP Court in in front of Justice Anderson and was released on her own recognizance as required by law. She is scheduled to appear at the Town of Barton Court on January 19, 2021 at 4:00 PM. Investigators were assisted by the Tioga County Fire Investigation Team.

01/06/21 Press Release : On January 4, 2021 at approximately 5:24 PM, the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a car/pedestrian collision on State Route 38B near Snapp Road in the Town of Newark Valley. Tioga County Sheriff Deputies responded to the scene where the pedestrian, 79 year old Irina A. Zaytseva of Newark Valley, was found to be deceased as a result of the collision. The initial investigation determined that Zaytseva was walking across State ...Route 38B when she was struck by two eastbound vehicles. Members of the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office Collision Investigation Team also responded to the scene and further determined that factors including limited sight distance, clothing color and poor visibility due to atmospheric conditions contributed to the collision. The drivers of both vehicles remained on scene and are cooperating with the ongoing investigation. The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Broome County Sheriff's Office, New York State Police, Newark Valley Fire Department, Maine Emergency Squad, Inc. and the New York State Department of Transportation. No Vehicle & Traffic Law or criminal charges are anticipated.
