COVID has hit our communities hard. Everyone has been effected by it in one way or another, including businesses. However, there are way to help the community, even if it is not in the way your business usually operates. Doing so may also help your business in the long run because you behaved as a member of the community.

A companies idea of assets usually focuses on money (cash, accounts receivables) or inventory. Employees are huge assets also. Invest in and protect them too!

Diversifying the types of businesses within our communities means attracting new businesses into the community as well. Government have incentives for new businesses. Collaborations between government and community organizations can help attract the appropriate types of businesses into a community. This increases the chances of ensuring the businesses is a good fit for the existing community.

The resources necessary for economic development are not limited to human capital. Businesses are equally important. We have businesses within our communities that can greater impact within our communities than focusing solely on attracting new businesses. Often existing businesses already know what the community needs and has a relationship with them. What's missing is often capital to grow or improve their businesses and greater awareness.

Economic Development is not just the creation of jobs. It requires the ability to recognize which resources already exist and may not be used to it's full potential and those it needs as well as the ability to simultaneously employ the resources in a way that benefits the members of the community.
