Since May 2020, we have seen a dramatic increase in larcenies from vehicles. With over 50 since May alone (not including 18 stolen vehicles since January 2020), we've noticed one common factor.....the vehicles were left unlocked with personal belongings (purses, cash, laptops, ect...) left inside. PLEASE, lock your vehicles as a deterrent, even if in your driveway. We have not received a report yet of a vehicle that property was stolen out of that was locked. In August of 202...0, with officers much more vigilant over the past few months because of the increase in larcenies, and in several cases, the public's help, the Town of Newburgh Police arrested several people for many of these crimes. Please realize this will not bring a stop to it. We promise to do our part by being visually active in the neighborhoods and responding to your calls, but ask you to help yourselves by locking your vehicle doors and sharing information with your neighbors. Locking the vehicle doors and motion lights have proven to be a significant deterrent. See more
