Repost from New York City Department of Cultural Affairs Applications are open for Public Artists in Residence (PAIR) program! The PAIR program embeds socially engaged artists in City agencies to utilize their creative, collaborative art practice to offer innovative solutions to pressing civic challenges. The residency provides artists with $40,000 in funding. This year, artists working in all media may apply to work with the following host agencies: NYC Department of Sani...tation (@nycsanitation), which is seeking to work with an artist who will bring dignity, respect, and appreciation to the agency's criticalbut often invisibleworkforce that makes life in New York City possible. NYC Department of Records and Information Services (@nycarchives), where the artist will be invited to imagine new ways to access, present, and use a vast store of newly-digitized video content from the 1970's and 80's that captured pivotal events of the era. NYC Department of Design and Construction (@nycddc), which proposes to utilize an artist residency to transform a construction site into a platform for exploring, imagining, creating, and enacting connections between neighbors and the public works that impact a neighborhood. View the PAIR application page for more information, guidelines, and eligibility. The deadline to apply is 11:59pm on Sunday, June 27, 2021. APPLY: nyculture.submittable.com/submit #PAIRnyc

Triangle is excited to welcome our Dumbo 2021 Summer artists-in-residence: Jeffrey Meris Slinko Ilana Harris-Babou... Jodie Lyn-Kee-Chow Jeffrey Meris is an artist who works across sculpture, installation, performance, and drawing to consider ecology, embodiment and various lived experiences while healing deeply personal and historical wounds. Slinko is a multidisciplinary artist from Ukraine and is currently living in the USA. Her artistic practice is rooted in travel and research, and is informed by social sciences. In her work, Slinko investigates the effects and workings of power on society and individuals. Ilana Harris-Babou’s work is interdisciplinary; spanning sculpture and installation, and grounded in video. She speaks the aspirational language of consumer culture and uses humor as a means to digest painful realities. Jodie Lyn-Kee-Chow is an interdisciplinary artist who often stages live and lens-based performances. She constructs narratives with wearable sculptures, drawings, and prints that aim to highlight the lost traditions and stories of her own heritage(s), cultural ideologies and the effects of migration, globalization, and climate change. We are thrilled to have reopened our studios to working artists again. Here’s what some of our artists have been working on this fall. Image 1+ 2: André Magaña, @andremagana_ is working on multiple series of sculptures that reference ancient Western Mexican artifacts and consumable goods one might find in a local Mexican market -- both of which hold significance to his personal history. Magaña's work reconciles how both consumables and ancient artworks (looted and studied by ...western historians) can be imbued with ancestral knowledge and self-affirming energy in spite of their entanglements with Western imperialism. Image 3+4: Also working in DUMBO, Riitta Ikonen, @dashdorn reports, Nicely stinky studio this week at Triangle! Here’s mushroom paper slurry in progress. Working on tests for the new cover material for my book ‘Eyes as Big as Plates,’ from foraged New York materials.
