Troy Bike Rescue 21.10.2020

Hey friends, Did you know that we are still open every other Saturday 9:30-12:30 by appointment for bike adoptions (below market value sales on a variety of sizes, styles and qualities of bike), and every Wednesday 3-7pm for open shop, a time when folks can come in to work with our volunteer mechanics on learning to fix your bike/getting help fixing it. For an appointment for a Saturday adoption slot visit calendly.com/troybikerescue. We are working on an appointment making method for open shop, but for now just come by and folks will be helped on a first come first served basis with two mechanics and two visitors allowed in the shop at a time. Please wear a mask for Saturdays and Wednesdays!

Hey bike riders n bike lovers, We are starting up open shop hours again! On Wednesdays 2-7pm we’ll have two mechanics in the shop and will be letting in 2 visitors at a time (masks required!). As always with our open shop, this is a time for folks to get assistance with fixing their bikes (we do not fix bikes FOR you, but rather work with you to try and get all your fixing needs addressed). And as always we have used and new parts available on donation. No appointments, just first come, first served. Yay!

Dearest TBR Supporters, 2020 is only half-over and has packed quite a punch. We endured months of lockdown and quarantine. There's over 100,000 people dead from COVID-19, and the virus rages on. George Floyd's death 'broke the camel's back' in Minneapolis but before that there was the hateful lynching death of Ahmad Arbury and the murder of Breonna Taylor, and in fact, the past 12 months have seen 1042 police killings. Finally, it seems that maybe the people in all their po...wer have had enough as we bear witness and find solidarity with uprisings around the country and even internationally demanding radical changes to policing. Meanwhile, it's expected to be the hottest year for our planet in human history, and I didn't even mention the callous, criminal white supremacist we are forced to call "president." We are a white-led organization. We want to change that over time, but fully acknowledge this shortcoming. We are not ashamed to be allies, but we also recognize the deference that this moment demands of us. Our shop has been a long-time supporter of black lives, and ally to the North Troy community. We have been practitioners of anti-capitalist mutual aid in the bicycle context as long as we have existed and we have employed principles of restorative justice over getting the cops involved when we have been robbed or vandalized. We don't know what the future will bring in the rest of 2020 and beyond, but we intend to continue to adapt and to continue to be a low-cost and free bicycle resource to the Troy community. We believe that tactics of cooperation and solidarity are the only way forward. YOU recognized this because amidst the tumultuousness, uncertainty, and pain of the Coronavirus pandemic, you donated to our GoFundMe campaign, and participated in online BikeFest, and as a result, WE RAISED $16,632!! WE WANT TO EXTEND A HUGE THANK YOU TO YOU PERSONALLY AND TO OUR COMMUNITY OF SUPPORTERS - INCLUDING THOSE WHO WERE UNABLE TO GIVE. The level of support is overwhelming and amazing. This money is not only the funds that will help us transform a new part of the shop into a classroom space with an emergency exit. (that is so rad!) It is just as importantly understood as a community mandate to keep going as we witness the global strife of the pandemic, participate in the uprisings, and ultimately, hopefully, are party to a paradigm shift in which the legacy of slavery is reckoned with, the historically racist institution of the Police (with its root as slave patrols tasked with maintaining a hierarchy and controlling an underclass) is disassembled and rebuilt as something wholly different to actually keep communities safe and healthy, and the urgency of the climate emergency is tantamount to all political discussion. I personally say THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! and I am joined by the other awesome board members of Troy Bike Rescue. Andrew Lynn + Daniel Lander & Hana van der Kolk

Troy Bike Rescue 06.09.2020

Hey friends, TBR is now open on Saturdays 9:30-12:30 for bike adoptions by appointment! Please DM us if you would like to book one of the limited slots for coming in on this, or a future, Saturday to see if we have a bike match for you or a loved one. One person/party will be allowed in the shop at a time and masks are required. We currently have a selection of different style and sized refurbished bikes ready to ride at a range of prices (always below market, always sliding scale), with new ones coming to the rack each week. If you have a really specific or unusual need bike-wise lettuce know that in advance and we'll look and see if we have what you're looking for. We are not taking donations of bikes right now unless they are ready to ride. We hope to be open very soon in some limited capacity for fixes. Stay tuned! RIDE YOUR BIKE
