Turtles are out and about, often entering dangerous territory in the search for food, mates, or a place to lay eggs or to seek a safe place for the next 6 months hibernating. This means that we're seeing injured turtles all around the state. We are only one of two state-permitted, dedicated turtle rescues in NY. and do not get funding from anyone but our donors. And we can't be everywhere at once. If you have found a turtle that is injured, collect the turtle (most important...Continue reading

These are our blind patients that came to us this year. Most were born with no eyes and one lost them due to an injury . One has paraparesis. They may live for 60 + years. We have a sanctuary that will be their home and if we find any of them with declining quality of life, we will decide the future to be the best for them.

Beautiful innocent children holding something that isn’t fluffy or furry, shows the innocence that you were born with to love every living thing, even if they aren’t beautiful including spiders, possums and mice. Elle is 3 years old. Beautiful ! Teach them young to respect all living things

Turtles love to hide which can be deadly for them. Watch for them when raking this fall. (Actually leave the leaves is the best choice )

Every rescue you do, you can feel your heart dying just a little bit more. Your emotions are so exposed to vulnerability and your eyes have seen deep into the ...souls of the suffering and scared. My disdain towards the human race is becoming prevalent every single day. I cannot understand, with their lack of empathy, how they can function. How are they not affected by the guilt? I know, that when I commit to this animal, there is a high probability, I am going to end its life. I am going to be confronted with an animal, that so desperately wants to live. An animal that doesn’t understand, why it’s body is broken and cannot move. Why it cannot get away from me, the predator. It doesn’t understand that I am there to help. To end the suffering. To take away the pain. It doesn’t understand any of that. It’s not supposed to. I ask myself constantly, is this journey for me? Can I keep exposing myself to this hurt. This pain. This feeling of helplessness. Feeling so consumed, of Raw emotion. Knowing already too well, these feelings will never go. Is this something that I can walk away from. Turn my back on. No. It’s not. I will learn to balance. I need to learn, to read the signs. Read what my body is telling me. Understand that it’s ok to pick myself up, to be strong again. For them. For I am of no use when I cannot help them. They have your heart. Their innocent eyes look into yours and they have you completely. I don’t do this for praise or thanks. I don’t do this because it makes me feel good. I don’t do this for the glory. I do this because I can. -Krysti Severi Photo Credit Sandra Sanders
