Help continue Dr. Susan Bennett’s legacy with a gift to a newly-created memorial fund. Dr. Susan E. Bennett, DPT, EdD, MS, longtime #UBuffalo faculty member in the School of Public Health and Health Professions and pioneer in rehabilitation practices for people with multiple sclerosis, was a generous teacher, mentor, colleague and friend. For over 40 years, she worked tirelessly on behalf of her patients, students and profession. She died June 4 after a battle with cancer. T...o honor her memory, Sue’s family, friends and colleagues have created the Susan E. Bennett Memorial Fund, which will provide a financial award to a student enrolled in the Department of Rehabilitation Science who demonstrates promise in the field of physical therapy. Celebrating UB's Adopt A Family 2020: The Rehabilitation Science department collected $625 in gift cards which were donated to both local families, and homeless youth transitioning into their first apartments with the Gateway Longview Shelter. ATTENTION OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ALUMNI: The UB OT program continues to need your help in developing level II fieldwork placements for our students. Several placements have been postponed or cancelled due to elevated COVID numbers in some areas. Level II placements are needed in a variety of settings, and can be completed in person or via Telehealth and also on a full time or part time basis, and in traditional or emerging practice areas. Four (4!) faculty members in the Department of Rehabilitation Science were recently awarded some of the highest honors given to professionals in their fields! Dr. James Lenker, fellow of the Rehabilitation Engineering & Assistive Technology Society (RESNA). Dr. Patricia Ohtake, distinguished fellow of The National Academies of Practice. Dr. Sharon Ray received the Roster of Fellows Award from American Occupational Therapy Association - AOTA. Dr. Janice Tona received the President’s Award from New York State Occupational Therapy Association (NYSOTA).

UB researchers create the first at-home rehabilitation app to focus on upper limb function: mRehab. This exciting work by Dr. Jeanne Langan, associate professor in UB's department of Rehabilitation Science, is published in today's UBNow. At-home, real-time feedback provided by the app, used in conjunction with 3D printed devices, improves long-term rehabilitation for stroke patients. ... The mRehab research team, made up of researchers from University at Buffalo School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, University at Buffalo School of Public Health and Health Professions, and Center for Inclusive Design and Environmental Access, have been refining the mRehab system since 2016.
