Leadership Development Grads Recognized Melissa Diaz, an industrial hygienist, and Mia Logan, an attorney, completed the District’s Leadership Development Program II, learning more about management and leadership.... Diaz’ project focused on employee morale, having witnessed loss of productive employees and complaints from staff. Diaz assisted Col. Luzzatto with a Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) analysis seeking solutions. Her experience helped her realize the importance of communication and how the right decision is not always popular, even if it’s best for the District. Diaz said having a voice boosts morale and being part of the solution provided a positive outcome: Leadership is listening and partnerships are growing. Mia Logan rotated in Operations, Programs and Project Management and Contracting Divisions, increasing her understanding of the breadth and complexity of District’ missions. Highlights included site visits to East Rockaway (Queens) and the Passaic River waterfront (New Jersey). Logan also experienced Troy Lock & Dam (upstate New York) and drift-collection operations in New York-New Jersey Harbor, illuminating impacts of District missions. #USACE #usarmy #dod
