Responsible lawyers, caring elected officials, good neighbors, favorite customers, friends and colleagues would remind the owner of each reopened store to check the state's online public unclaimed funds listing. With each courier sticker indicating a delivery was not made or mail lost and unable to be forwarded, checks are being reported uncashed on unclaimed funds lists throughout the United States. In New York, for example, you may search your individual name or the name of... a business (in the organization field), look for the OUF reference number and file your claim to retrieve monies owed to you. For New York State's list, please follow this link: https://ouf.osc.state.ny.us/ouf/?wicket-crypt=QzRfnpkBm1g. We each must do our part to assist with regaining financial stability of ourselves and the businesses in our community. For attorneys who represent business owners, this is a helpful announcement to include in your next newsletter. Before settling a commercial bankruptcy or the estate of a decedent, the state unclaimed funds list should be searched and claims processed. There are states in this country that only provide a limited time to claim such funds before they are permanently seized. A best practice is to check the unclaimed funds list annually. #COVID19 #unclaimedfunds See more

Official Statement Regarding Recent Events: As an attorney on the upper west side of Manhattan for nearly 20 years, I have offered countless hours of pro bono services to students, the disabled, the elderly, neighbors and those who have traveled a long way just to get the assistance they could not find near their home. I'm sure we all have a few stories of our own. For those of you who have worked with me, you know that helping others is what sustains me. All are welcome her...e. In times of trouble, hardship, great anguish and violence, we must remember that there is good in the world and great love in New York City. As business leaders and professionals, we can honor each person lost to either the virus or violence by taking a step forward each day with an additional act of kindness. Now more than ever, we need to set the right example and in doing so exemplify compassion. Kindness and commoraderie will unite us and together we can face the challenges life sends our way. See more
