On Sunday morning Vigilant Tower Ladder 8324 and Chief 838 responded mutual aid to Floral Park Fire for a commercial fire. 8324 Chauffeur was able to get excellent positioning and was able to cover an area of the structure unreachable for the other tower ladders. Congratulations to our very own Omer Shafir, who has won FIRST PLACE in the NAEMT EMT Skills Competition, hosted by the HOSA international conference!!! Omer is currently a college student attending Rutgers University.

Yesterday, at 3:55 PM, the Great Neck Vigilant Fire Company was dispatched to a possible structure fire on Cuttermill Road. Upon arrival Chief of Department, Josh Charry transmitted a Signal 10 (Working Fire). Vigilant Units found fire in the roof as it quickly spread to 4 store fronts. The fire was upgraded to a 5 Alarm fire and took approximately two and a half hours to bring under control. The fire was contained to one building. A total of 10 Firefighters/EMTs were evaluat...ed and 3 transported to North Shore University Hospital with minor injuries. A big thank you to the Vigilant members, officers, engineers, and Mutual-Aid units from across the county who came to help battle the blaze. This weeks #memberoftheweek is Ex-Chief Sager! Ex-Chief Sager has been a dedicated member of the Vigilant Fire Company since December of 1978. Since the start of the pandemic, Ex-Chief Sager has volunteered to take multiple fire shifts on a weekly basis to ensure our community is kept safe. He has also recently started training some of our newer members to become Chauffeurs of Heavy Rescue 834! Keep up the great work Ex-Chief Sager and thank you for always teaching the next generation!
