Let NEW YORK play pool!!!

Village Billiards 04.09.2020

September 4, 2020 Sent via U.S. Mail and facsimile: 518-474-1513 The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo Governor of New York State NYS State Capitol Building... Albany, NY 12224 Re: Request to get back to business Dear Governor Andrew Cuomo, This letter is a follow-up to the letter you received from Greg Fletcher, President of the American Poolplayers Association, Inc. (APA), asking for you to allow for the safe use of pool tables in bars and pool halls, like mine, that have reopened. I am the General Manager of Village Billiards in Warwick, NY. I am grateful for the opportunity to get back to business under your plan to reopen the state and restart our economy. I am asking that my business be given the same opportunity to recover as bowling alleys and other indoor recreational sports facilities have been given by the state. Village Billiards has hosted players from the Hudson Valley APA for many years. The APA, and the local League Operator, Ryan McAleer, have worked with me to grow my business, while also growing his. APA League night generates significant revenue for Village Billiards and is key to our profitability and success. I would like to be able to once again host APA League night at Village Billiards in a safe and sanitary way. However, to do so, the state must lift its prohibition on the use of pool tables. I am committed to following the state’s requirements and guidelines while we all work together to curb the impact of the coronavirus. However, the use of a pool table in my establishment will not increase the risk of my patrons becoming infected. While I understand that you have to make tough choices to protect the people of New York, prohibiting the use of pool tables does not make patrons more safe. I am committed to working with Ryan McAleer and the APA to ensure that my establishment, and their players, comply with any state regulations and guidelines established for the use of pool tables. APA is a vital partner for my business. I ask that you reconsider your prohibition on the use of pool tables, and instead permit their use with appropriate sanitation measures. If I can answer any questions about this letter, or our work with APA, please contact me using the information stated below. Sincerely, Sarah Colley Village Billiards 17 Main St Warwick, NY 10990 845-544-7750 See more

Please share: The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo Governor of New York State NYS State Capitol Building Albany, NY 12224... Dear Governor Andrew Cuomo, I am writing to ask you to help us get back to playing pool in New York State. Throughout my life, pool has been a stable recreational activity that I have been able to take part in. As a pool player in the Hudson Valley, I have visited many of the local pool halls in the area and met some fantastic people in the process. Our local pool halls need your help to stay alive. We are asking for you to allow them to reopen as soon as possible to avoid imminent closure. Pool halls are locally owned businesses. These are not corporations with million-dollar investors that can keep them afloat during this extended closure. The owners are blue-collar men and women who have already lost so much during this pandemic. Every day that they are unable to open their doors they move closer to permanent closure. New Yorkers that play in pool halls come from all walks of life. Some people think that pool halls are full of men. However, pool is played by men and women of all ages. I am a member of the Hudson Valley APA (American Poolplayers Association) which has been serving the pool halls , bars and amateur pool players since 1991. Pool players understand that safety measures are needed to allow all customers to play safely and we are willing to follow them if they make it possible for pool halls to reopen. August 20, 2020 Like bowling alleys, pool halls can block off tables to ensure social distancing, and implement capacity restrictions. Players can avoid sharing equipment by using their own cues. Pool tables, public cue sticks and pool balls can easily be sanitized between uses. We also know that our APA League Operator will be adhering to the regulations set forth if pool table use is allowed. Just like with bowling alleys and other indoor recreational sports permitted under the current phase of the reopening, pool halls and pool leagues can get back to business safely and within all current guidelines. When making your decision, I ask that you please consider the local business owners as they have taken the biggest hit with the current pandemic. I also ask that you consider the players. Pool players are a community, and those of us in that community miss the competitiveness, comradery and social interaction that helps us relieve the stress of everyday life and enjoy the sport we love. I appreciate your help and ask that you please send me a response letting me know if you are able to help our pool halls reopen. Every day that they are unable to open or prevented from using their pool tables moves them closer to permanent closure. Thank you for your time and considering my request. Sincerely,
