Village Of Lindenhurst Winter Snow Tips The Village of Lindenhurst Department of Public Works asks each resident to do the following: 1. Keep vehicles off the road. Put your vehicle in your driveway, or ask a neighbor to share theirs. If a driveway is not an options, lawns can be used to park vehicles only in the event of storm where the roadways need to be cleared (this will not harm the lawn). 2. Try not to clear your driveway until the plows are finished. When the street i...s completed, pile the snow to the right of the driveway. 3. Do not blow snow into the roadway. A summons can be issued for doing so and creating a road hazard. 4. Keep your vehicle all the way in your driveway. Do not have it hanging into the roadway while the roads are being plowed. The drivers may not see it and damage to the vehicle may occur. The Village is not responsible for any damages that occur during a snow event. If all residents follow these suggestions, it will allow the Department of Public Works to do their job quickly and safely. Main roads and emergency snow routes will be first priority and then side streets to follow. For questions about plowing, please contact the Department of Public Works at (631) 957-7520 or [email protected] . Facebook will not be utilized as a means of reporting streets that need to be plowed. See more

WINTER STORM AND COASTAL FLOOD WARNING HAS BEEN ISSUED BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE, NY Sanitation pickup has been cancelled for Monday, please do not report plowing issues to Facebook. The National Weather Service has increased snow forecast amounts upwards to as much as 18 to 24 inches depending upon where the heavier snow banding sets up, which does not necessarily mean Lindenhurst. I would say to be safe, we should prepare for a foot or more of snow before mixing to s...leet and rain, which could affect total accumulations. Blowing snow could produce blizzard like conditions that will impact the area as winds gust to 50 plus miles per hour at times. Snow should begin falling later tonight into early Monday and continue into Tuesday. Coastal flooding will be a problem as the storm will affect several high tide cycles and produce minor to moderate flooding. Local wash-overs can also be expected along with some tidal piling and wind driven waves along the shoreline. This storm has the potential to produce a wide range of dangerous impacts so don't just get hung up on specific snow fall amounts, as they may vary especially if the mixing occurs. Residents are urged avoid driving and to remove vehicles from roadways if possible. This will help with snowplowing operations. Vehicles left parked on designated snow emergency routes may be towed if deemed necessary. Residents living in low lying coastal areas prone to flooding should move their cars to safer locations. The Lindenhurst Emergency Management Office will continue to monitor this storm, and if necessary provide additional updates. Do not report plowing issues to Facebook. Please contact the Department of Public Works at (631) 957-7520.

#TBT to 2007 when @rdalandscapearchitecture was chosen to design a new sustainable parking lot for a parcel adjacent to the existing @lindenhurst_library. A MESSAGE FROM LINDENHURST MAYOR MICHAEL LAVORATA We are all hoping the mild Winter we’ve been enjoying continues until Springtime. However, just in case Mother Nature does not cooperate, we wanted to put out some information for our residents of things you should be aware of about Village snow removal. No matter how great an accumulation of snow Winter brings, we in the Village of Lindenhurst remain prepared. The Village Department of Public Works takes great pride ...in keeping our roads clear and safe, quickly and efficiently. DO YOUR PART! One of the most helpful things residents can do during a snow emergency is to get cars off the street. Park in your driveway, if you have one, or ask a neighbor if you can share theirs they may welcome the request as more cars normally means less shoveling. This simple act will make it so much easier for the snow plows to get through, which will mean our streets will be cleared sooner and more effectively. DO NOT SHOVEL SNOW INTO ROADWAY! Additionally, please be aware that it is against Village Code to shovel/blow snow into the street since it can create a road hazard. Try not to clear your driveway until plows are finished. When the street is completed, pile the snow to the right (your right when facing the street/your left when facing the house) of the driveway. This will avoid the snow being pushed back into your driveway if the plows need to come through again. Also, please don’t forget to clear sidewalks and fire hydrants adjacent to your property after a storm. Remember, in a snowstorm the Village’s number one job is safety. Main roads and emergency snow routes are first priority for the plows; side streets to follow. Our Department of Public Works plow trucks are out at all hours, in all conditions, to clear the Village roadways so that we are able to go about the business of daily living within a reasonable amount of time. I remain humble to be the Mayor of the Village of Lindenhurst, and I hope our residents appreciate the hard work of our Village employees, and our commitment to getting the job done. #LindenhurstVillage #Lindenhurst #VillageOfLindenhurst #LongIsland See more

Below is an update concerning this week’s weather from Ray Fais, Emergency Manager: The system threatening to produce some nuisance snow for Tuesday is still a bit iffy, but may actually provide a one (1) to three (3) inch dusting with the possibility of some mixing especially along the coast. There is another system I'm watching that threatens for Wednesday evening into Thursday. However, the current forecast track moves it a bit south and east of our area which should s...pare us from a major snow storm. Keep in mind it's still early in the forecast, and so the final track is not definite. #VillageOfLindenhurst #LindenhurstVillage #Lindenhurst
