The Village of Madison expresses our condolences at the loss of State Assemblyman Bill Magee. Bill was a staunch advocate for small, rural communities, agribusiness, and education. We are appreciative of all Bill did for our community over the years - he even stepped in as one MCS alum's government project one year! We are grateful for all he did for our little village, and we will hold him fondly in our memories.

ANNOUNCEMENT ON BEHALF OF THE MADISON FIRE DEPT.: Ho! Ho! Ho! Santa Claus is coming to Madison! Please watch for him as he makes his way through our little town on December 23rd @ 6PM. You can watch for him from the comfort of your home if you live on Santa's route or park at one of the locations along his jolly path.... Santa will begin his festive adventure at the Madison Fire Station, heading down Route 20 to North Street, where Santa will turn around at Solsville. He will dash to the MCS parking lot and then travel to the trailer park to spread Christmas cheer. He will then head back down Route 20 to the fire station where his reindeer will be waiting to get him back to the North Pole! If you would like to be part of the actual Christmas Train and not just a spectator, please arrive at the Madison Fire Station by 5:30 PM with your decorated vehicles! HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Remember, trick-or-treating is on in the Village of Madison tonight. Houses passing out candy will have the porch lights on, so be safe and have fun! Mask up!

When you live in a small town, sometimes people have to wear many hats. The Mayor has been filling in as crossing guard this year until a new person could be hired. And today, her last day on the job before the new guard starts next week, she dressed in costume for the kids and donned her witch's hat! We echo the sentiment from Tracey Lewis - thanks, Mayor Barb, for everything you do for our little community.

HALLOWEEN 2020: Many people have been asking us about Halloween this year, as it has largely been left up to the municipalities as to whether to allow it or not. Below please find our Halloween announcement. If you'd like to learn more about safe trick-or-treating from the CDC, click here https://www.cdc.gov//daily-life-co/holidays/halloween.html

Today, the Village of Madison remembers the precious lives lost 19 years ago at the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and in a field in Pennsylvania. The memory of this day, and those who were lost, will be with us always.

As many of you know, this year the Village was unable to hold its annual summer recreation program due to COVID-19 regulations. It has always been important to the Village to help ensure that the needs of children are met, which is why we work each year to ensure money is budgeted for this important program. Because we were unable to hold the rec program this summer, we decided to distribute the funds to where they might do the most good. We were pleased to make in-kind contr...ibutions to both the Madison Food Cupboard and the Hamilton Food Cupboard, both of which serve families in the Madison community. In addition, we funded the creation of backpacks for children in grades K-5. We furnished two backpacks per grade level, complete with supplies, for children in need in our school district, as well as additional classroom supplies such as tissues and sanitizing wipes. Thanks to all who helped, from Doug Bush, our clerk, who carefully manages money and creates budgets that make these funds available, to the local college students who hit the stores for supplies, helped deliver food, and stuffed backpacks. We are grateful to be able to help in these small ways, and we hope to be able to resume our summer recreation program in 2021.

We hope all the kids, faculty, and staff at MCS, and all other schools starting classes, had a good day back. It's different this year, for sure! Please remember to slow down in the school zone while driving and keep your eyes open for kids walking. And, if you have concerns about COVID-19, the state has created a COVID report card that will provide up-to-date information per school district as the year progresses. Click the link below to learn more. Have a healthy, safe school year!

Happy Labor Day to all of those in our community who work hard every day. This year, a very special thanks to our essential workers - agribusiness workers, school administration, faculty and staff, public servants, healthcare professionals, store and food service workers, and so many more - who have helped keep our area running in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis. We are grateful for you, and appreciate you today and every day.
