Thanks Missie Hesler of the Sag Harbor Ambulance Corp for organizing this wonderful honor for my father. My father served this community as a volunteer on the ambulance Corp for 25 years, drove school buses for the Sag Harbor schools and delivered mail with the US Post Office. All aspects were covered in the parade. He is also a retired NYC fireman. Love this community

It is bes...t to apply for a CO within 30 days of purchasing your home, but it is never too late. Visit our website for an application! 3) Thinking of RENTING YOUR HOME this Summer? You'll want to check the Village Code to see what the requirements and fees are. The Mayor will be meeting with East Hampton Airport officials today to review aircraft flight patterns and traffic volume. Senator Schumer and Congressman Bishop have partitioned the FAA to extend the mandatory north shore route for helicopter traffic which is due to expire in August. This route requires that helicopters fly over the LI Sound when they are leaving or approaching EH Airport. They are also trying to modify the route so that helicopters are required to fly around Orient Point as they leave or approach the airport. Low flying or excessive aircraft noise should be reported to the East Hampton Noise Complaint Line at 800-376-4817 or www.planenoise.com/khto/

The Point House on Ferry Road is being moved to a new location and saved from demolition. Built in 1804 by John Payne,Jr. the Point House is one of the oldest homes in North Haven. The home was recently purchased by Stuart and Marni Hersch from Christie Brinkley. When the Hersche's applied to the Village to demolish the house so they could build a new one on the water David Sherwood and the Architectural Review Board were greatly alarmed. Our research revealed that the house ...was not a protected historic structure and there was no legal way to prevent the owner from removing it. After much discussion David and the mayor Jeff Sander agreed to approach the new owners and architect with a proposal to allow the owner a variance to have two houses on the property. We requested that they retain the point house by moving it to a new location close to Ferry Road and build their new home in the location they wanted. This unusual variance will preserve the house in its current state and be visible to all. See more

To: The Editor, Sag Harbor Express Last week your paper wrote a lengthy editorial regarding a perceived lack of communication about North Haven Village deer and tick management plans. The Village has, in fact, communicated extensively with its residents about those plans: Responding to our public duty to serve our village and its residents, we formed a committee last year to study the problems created by the overpopulation of deer in the Village. The committee was comprised o...f residents that represented all the associations and neighborhoods within the village. They worked throughout the summer reviewing various solutions and came up with their recommendations. The committee then presented those recommendations at the North Haven Village Board Meeting in August last year. The Sag Harbor Express was in attendance and reported the results. The Deer Committee’s recommendations were also posted our Web site, and were included in our Fall Newsletter to North Haven Village residents. We are trying to use a broad approach to address the problems by reducing the herd, using 4-poster stations to kill the ticks on the deer, and contraception or sterilization to reduce deer population growth. North Haven Village residents that are directly affected by any implementation of these plans are well aware of what is happening and when. The Village staff and I have responded to all phone calls or inquiries from North Haven residents about our actions. The feedback we have received from our residents to these plans has been very positive. Our community is aware of the problems deer overpopulation has created for North Haven Village. Our residents asked us to come up with a plan to address the problems and I believe we have done that, with their input. We then communicated the plans back to all the residents of the community, and will continue to keep them apprised of the plans and progress. Jeff Sander Mayor, North Haven Village

Below are comments from Barry Holden about our current candidates and where they stand on the airport and aircraft noise. Barry is very close to this issue and has been a long time advocate of programs to reduce airplane and helicopter noise.

Village of North Haven, NY 18.04.2019

Hello everyone, I hope that this email is not too late but I thought that I would tell you what I know about the candidates running for Town Board seats in East Hampton and Southampton. My focus is only on their relationship to the helicopter and plane noise issue. I am not in any way suggesting that I have any party affiliation on this issue. Southampton Town Board:... Current Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst has been very supportive in our efforts to control the noise and numerous flights out of the EH airport when they disturb their neighbors in the region. We have her promise that this issue will remain on her radar and she will continue to be an advocate to help stop the noise and to push for a Northern route that will take the traffic over the Long Island Sound and around Orient Point. The expansion of the Northern Route to its original mandate will help all of us in neighboring communities. Current Board member Christine Scolera has also been a supporter of our activities. East Hampton Board: Larry Cantwell will run unopposed for the EH supervisor's position and when we spoke to him at length, we felt certain that he will support a true gathering of the data and has told ud that he will not take FAA money without a clear understanding of the ramifications of doing so. We will support his efforts wholeheartedly. On the other hand, current board member, Dominick Stanzione, has been the driving force in sending the helicopters over our communities. He has been a strong proponent of taking FAA money to expand the airport and he has met our pleas for a solution to this problem with sarcasm and stonewalling tactics. Please, whomever you do vote for in East Hampton, do not vote for Dominick Stanzione. Thank you, Barry Holden

Chris Miller and I went to Mashomack Preserve on Shelter Island yesterday to lean how to count ticks. The attached video shows Chris Miller using a "flag" to capture ticks off the ground and foliage. The flagging is done for 30 seconds and it is done 30 times at 3 different sites. The ticks are counted and classified after each sampling and the counts are used to measure tick density over time to determine the effectiveness of our deer and tick management programs. Many thanks to Mike Scheibel from the Mashomack Preserve and Dr. Bill Zitek for hosting us and showing us this technique. Many many thanks to Chris Miller from North Haven for going with me and braving the tick infested areas we travelled. Chris is a local Horticulturalist who was on our deer management committee and who will help us with our future efforts. Jeff Sander
