CAUGHT UP TO GRADE LEVEL READING!!!! Wow! We cannot say enough about how proud we are to have helped Thomas as a patient! At the beginning of Vision Therapy, Thomas couldn’t complete his timed math assessments and was behind in reading in spite of being a very bright person. Reading made him very uncomfortable and he would come up with lots of creative ways to avoid it. Once Thomas learned how to get his eyes working FOR him instead of AGAINST him when he looks at papers on... his desk, he started finishing those math level speed tests and catching up with reading levels! Great job and Congratulations! We will miss you so much, but we know great things are in store for you!!! #visiontherapy #optometry #behavioraloptometry #developmentaloptometry #developmentaloptometrist #esotropia #exotropia #convergenceinsufficiency #orthoptics #visualskills #readingproblems #writingproblems #eyetracking #visualmotorskills #visualmotorintegration #longislandny #melvilleny

Individualized Orthoptic Vision Therapy. Our Center for Visual Development recently hosted Roman Numeral Day by modifying many of our favorite VT activities to incorporate this patient’s favorite code: Roman Numerals! Sometimes patients need for a little extra motivation to stay engaged and keep learning better visual skills. This young man’s teachers are thrilled with his improvements in reading and handwriting since beginning vision therapy and mom notices much more wil...lingness to do near work and desk work. Orthoptic vision therapy gives a patient the ability to aim the eyes accurately and comfortably at what they’re viewing. We don’t teach reading or writing, we just teach our patients how to prevent poor visual motor skills from getting in the way! #visiontherapy #optometry #behavioraloptometry #developmentaloptometry #developmentaloptometrist #esotropia #exotropia #convergenceinsufficiency #orthoptics #visualskills #readingproblems #writingproblems #eyetracking #visualmotorskills #visualmotorintegration #longislandny #melvilleny

Our Center for Visual Development is continuing our reading adventure! Try to find the 4 hidden animals and solve the mystery of Puzzle Island. Hidden pictures are not vision therapy on their own, but we use visual perceptual skills such as visual closure to solve these types of puzzles. Visual closure is the ability to identify something after seeing only part of it. As we become more experienced readers, we recognize words by size and shape not by looking at every detail ...of familiar words. This is how we read as quickly as we do. Vision therapy can address deficiencies in visual closure and other visual perceptual skills. #visual closure #visiontherapy #visualperceptualskills #visualperception #readingskills #vision #melvilleny #longislandny

This guy made so much progress in vision therapy and really earned this graduation! Mom tells us that he is reading much more quickly and has improved his reading comprehension and handwriting! And guess what? Way less toe walking now that he perceives where he is in space so much better. It couldn’t happen to a nicer guy! Congratulations B! #visiontherapy #readingproblems #eyetracking #convergenceinsufficiency #toewalking #visualperceptualskills

Puzzles are a great visual perpetual skill builder, but they are also a great way to get your teens off their devices. Myopia (nearsightedness) is becoming more and more common as kids and teens spend more sustained time online for school and entertainment. Break the cycle by reducing screen time. This was found at a local toy store, MJ Beanz in Plainview. #myopia #myopiacontrol ##visualperception #visiontherapy #developmentaltoys #shoplocal

You know it’s a great course when the lecturer extends education an extra hour just to answer questions! Dr. Jen Ceonzo spent her Saturday on Zoom studying new techniques to treat patients with strabismus led by Dr. David Cook, author of several books on vision. Come see us for a strabismus evaluation. You do not have to give up on your dreams of depth perception and straight eyes! #strabismus #eyeturn #lazyeye #visiontherapy #depthperception

Understanding mathematics has a very visual basis. Visual and manipulative aids can help children develop understanding of the underpinnings of mathematics by seeing and proving basic number relationships. #visiontherapyworks #visionismorethan2020 #visualperception #learningthroughplay #visiontherapy

August is Children’s Vision and Learning Month. We look back to honor this graduate who came to us with headaches and blur after reading from screens despite having 20/20 vision. With the right glasses for school and the right vision therapy, Marc graduated a couple months later headache-free, blur-free, and reading much faster! Come see us and find out how developmental optometry can help you! #visiontherapy #visionandlearningmonth #developmentaloptometry #visiontherapyworks #eyetracking #readingsuccess #2020isnotenough
