There have been a lot of questions about the upcoming summer and how it will look for Camp Hollis. As of right now we are moving forward with a residential camp... program. If COVID persists, we will need to reevaluate and reimagine camp. As we receive more information about guidelines and restrictions for the upcoming summer we will let everyone know. There has also been a change to the CIT program for the upcoming summer. We will now be requiring a registration fee for all CIT's who will be attending camp this summer. On the application you will find different weeks that you can sign your 15 or 16 year old up for as well as the fee for attendance. Before any payment is required there will be an interview process. Once those have been conducted and decisions have been made, the payment for the summer will be due. If you have anymore questions about this new program you can visit our website at youthbureau.oswegocounty.com or email Zach Grulich at [email protected]. As the months progress we will keep everyone updated on the impact that COVID will have on our camp program. As for now, please stay safe and healthy and look forward to an amazing summer here at Camp Hollis!

Very sad news to report. Gen. Jacob Brown, the long-time mascot at Fort Ontario State Historic Site, died Dec. 1 at the age of 17. He was cared for by Paul Lear, site manager at the fort, and Amy Stone Lear, who owns and operates Man in the Moon Candies in downtown Oswego. Many of you who have visited Fort Ontario in the past became acquainted with Gen. Brown. He greeted guests, patrolled the ramparts, and rode in a seat of honor during the Oswego Independence parades. We will miss you, Gen. Brown. Your watch is over. Rest in peace.

Credit: Amy Lear, Man in the Moon Candies In days past, lighthouses played an indispensable role in helping ship captains safely navigate to their destinations. Today, the Thousand Island-Seaway’s rich legacy of historic lighthouses are among its most visited travel destinations. Send a tasty reminder of these beloved waterside landmarks to someone special this year by gifting a delicious Oswego Lighthouse recreated in chocolate and surrounded by edible chocolate rocks, from Man in the Moon Candies. Oswego; $19.95.

Check out these cool stereograms of Oswego Harbor throughout the years. Stereoscopy is a technique that creates the illusion of depth by displaying two offset ...images viewed independently through the right and left eye, as viewed through a stereoscope. They were hugely popular in the US and Europe been c. 1850 and the early 20th century. The H. Lee White Maritime Museum at Oswego and Treasure Chest Gift Shop are open by appointment through March 31st by contacting us at 315-342-0480 or https://hlwmm.org/contact.php
