Join friend of the museum and Girl Scout Alyssa Connelly for two tutorials. First up, she will guide you through the process of making your own lip balm! What will you need? -Beeswax pellets (3oz) -Jojoba oil (1/2 oz)... -Almond oil (1/2 oz) -Almond Extract (a few drops) -A small container to hold the balm Let us know how your lip balm turned out!

Each year the Voelker Orth Museum has a Honey Harvest Festival. Educators and volunteers facilitate bee-themed activities, and our beekeeper extracts honey on-site. Since this year is different, we are posting virtual activities for all to enjoy. Check back throughout the day for all the buzz!

Did you know the Voelker Orth Museum has a bee hive that produces delicious pure honey? Join us tomorrow, October 16, to learn about the bee ecosystem through various bee-related activities and pre-recorded videos. VOM Beekeeper Helen Colhoun will provide an introduction to beekeeping, tell the story of the museum’s hive this past summer and explain the honey extraction process in detail. Girl Scout and friend of the museum, Alyssa Connelly will offer a tutorial on how to mak...e beeswax lip balm and beeswax food wraps. Stay tuned for these videos and more tomorrow!
