Washingtonville firefighters have had a busy 12 hours. We started shortly after 10 pm last night with R581, Car 2 and Car 3 taking in a 2nd alarm in Goshen. The fire was quickly knocked down and units returned to service in under 30 minutes. Next at 11:38 pm we were dispatched to a chimney fire on Victoria Dr. in the Town of Blooming Grove. Units arrived to find smoke showing from a large single family home. Fire was found in the basement with extension into the floor above.... 2 lines were stretched and the fire was knocked down quickly. At 7:40 am this morning we were again dispatched to a structural fire for a furnace on fire inside of a residence on Farm Lane in the village. Units arrived to again find smoke showing from the front door and windows. A line was stretched and the furnace was extinguished with minimal extension.
Santa is out and about. Currently traveling through the village. We will hit areas of Blooming Grove that are in the Washingtonville fire district after the village
The Washingtonville Fire Department/Monell Engine Company regrets to announce the passing of Past Chief/Past President Dennis Geyer. Dennis was nothing less than a legend in our department and led the department through much of the 1990's and into the 2000's. For those in the fire service, you know those certain names that represent a department even after they have stopped responding to calls. Geyer is one of those names for our department. Please keep the Geyer family in your prayers.
Last night, Just after 1730 hours R581(FAST) , E580 and Car 1 responded to this 2nd alarm house fire in Kiryas Joel. The crew of R-581 was split with half the crew remaining a FAST and the rest of the crew functioning as a truck. E-580 was assigned to a tanker fill site. TA-577 was assigned later in the incident to provide manpower and supply water. The Fire-Police unit was also requested to the scene. 1 occupant was able to self evacuate from the basement after crews made an initial knock of the fire. #49pride #washingtonvillefd
With the impending winter weather, we would like to remind everyone to help keep fire hydrants clear of snow. Thank you, and stay safe!

On Sunday December 20th We will be bringing Santa through the neighborhoods in our fire district! We will be starting in the village and making our way to the Bull/Moffat Rd area, then heading toward the Tomahawk Lake area. Unfortunately, due to Covid we will not be making any stops. Keep an eye out for Santa as he passes through the area!
