OFFFICIAL NOTICE REGARDING THE HERSHEY CAR SHOW AND NEW SPECIAL FALL MEET FROM THE AACA NATIONAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS There is an old saying about the best laid plans and we had a great plan for the Hershey car show this year. We worked with all parties and had an agreement on a COVID-19 solution for our show. We ordered trophies and the Hershey Region ordered judges hats and dash plaques. We were excited to work together with the Region to make this a great show. Unfort...unately, in the last few days we were given a new set of regulations to follow which would have drastically affected the quality of the event in a negative way. As much as we wanted to have the show at the traditional location and be able to show-off the outside of the new AACA headquarters we must cancel the traditional Eastern Division Fall Meet car show on October 9-10. We owe it to you to get this right and apologize to all who now must make changes to your schedule, cancel rooms, and most importantly miss being in Chocolate Town, USA. We are however committed to providing our members with a safe, enjoyable, and sensible event this fall. We have proven that in a short time and with your cooperation we can pull off a show in another location. Our 2020 Grand Nationals in Gettysburg was a huge hit and done safely with the complete cooperation of our members. As such, we are proud to announce we will host a Special Fall Nationals on November 6-7 at the same Wyndham Hotel complex in Gettysburg, PA. Everything is onsite, trailer parking, host hotel along with a Marriott Courtyard next door and judging school. Gettysburg is a great place to find activities in a historic location that offers so much to see. The potential for cancelation is extremely remote. We have a well thought out and proven plan. Yes, masks and temperature taking just as we had planned for Hershey will be a requirement. Your previous checks will be shredded so please do not worry about them being cashed. We will be sending a registration for Gettysburg. Please fill it out and send it in right away. The Host Hotel is the Wyndham 717-339-0020 and the Marriott Courtyard next door is 717-334-5600. There is a restaurant on the grounds as well. We even have overflow trailer parking if needed directly across the street. Average weather at that time of the year is typical fall. It will be a great show! Judges, you will get a judge’s hat from Hershey as a bonus so please join us. We need you! With only three shows this year it may be a great chance for your show car to win a national award as well. So please join us, it WILL be a great event!! AACA Board of Directors See more

May look like a throwback, but it's really the Snappers, Brass & Gas car group heading to Put-in-Bay. Some of these cars are over 100 years old. Welcome Aboard!

While today most motorists take getting into a car and starting it up with the push of a button or the twist of a key for granted, what they probably don’t realize is that they have Cadillac to thank for it. Before Cadillac introduced the industry’s first electric starter in its 1912 model lineup, starting a car was an arduous process which used a hand crank. It was also, incidentally, the number one injury risk in the early days of motoring. Cadillac founder Henry M. Leland, had already pioneered electric lights and electric ignition on his cars. He worked closely with Charles F. Kettering, the inventor of the electric starter, to incorporate the device into his cars. The electric starter also was GM’s first electric motor a core business today given the growth in the electrification of the automobile. The brand berries.com

In the early 1900s automobiles had regular glass for windshield. While this was normal for back then, in the event of a collision the glass would shatter and fly all around the cabin, posing a grave threat of additional injuries to the occupants. In fact, so serious was the problem that certain car buyers resisted closed-body automobiles. Cadillac introduced the shatter-proof glass in all its vehicles in 1928, making it the first manufacturer to do so. Dubbed Security Plate Glass, its concept exists to this day and has potentially saved countless lives over the decades.

Some engine oil filters used Toilet Paper as Filter Elements. These were popular when the Ford Model T was new. But they were still being sold in the 1950s.

You thought all spark plugs had white porcelain insulators, right? They do now. But at one time the Splitdorf Company made a premium spark plug that was very recognizable because of its hexagonal insulator and its green color. The color was not a marketing or esthetic choice. Splitdorf Spark Plug insulators were made out of ruby mica rather than porcelain. The mica was more durable than porcelain being less susceptible to cracks and breaking.

Primer spark plug. The old engines needed to be primed in the cold weather. You couldn’t pour gas in the carburetor as they were updraft in the 20’s. So manufacturers produced these primer plugs
