Whippleville Music Studio 15.12.2020

Good morning! Beginning Wednesday, July 1st lessons will be available, in-person, at my home studio. I will continue to offer lessons via online platforms for those who prefer this method. Please let me know your availability on Wednesdays and Thursdays - if you could give me two to three options that work for you, I can begin putting together a schedule. You are also welcome to use the Booking option on the FaceBook page (Whippleville Music Studio) In effort to keep everyo...ne safe and comfortable, I will be observing the following practices. I will be scheduling 30 minutes between lesson slots - this is so that I am able to prepare for the next student entering. During this time, I will clean and disinfect all surfaces used by students (music stand, chair, piano, bench etc.) I will be wearing a mask and students will be required to wear a mask. I will maintain a safe social distance between myself and the student. I request that only the student enter the home, with the exception of very young students or students needing a parent to accompany them. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to send me an email or give me a call. [email protected] or (518) 319-4411 If Wednesday’s or Thursday’s do not work for your schedule, please let me know and I can try to figure out another option. Thank you for your support! Marjorie

Hello everyone! First of all, I hope that everyone has stayed safe and healthy during this unprecedented time. I know it’s been very difficult for everyone. Many students have been continuing lessons via Skype, Google Hangout or FaceTime. It has worked very well and it has been so wonderful to still connect during this time. This update is to let you know that in-house lessons will not resume until the Phase 4 stage of reopening. I will continue to offer lessons via the fol...lowing options. Option 1: Live lessons via Skype, Google Hangout or FaceTime. For availability, please refer to the Book Now on the Whippleville Music Studio Facebook Page. Option 2: Pre-recorded/recorded lessons - if you would like more information on how this works or if you would like a sample, please send me an email [email protected] (all pre-recorded/recorded lessons will be at the rate of a hour lesson, $20) I wish your family well and thank you for your support and communication. Musically Yours, Marjorie

I've been busy making practice videos for my students. My private lessons are tailored to meet the individual needs of my students; their goals and interests. We have been doing lessons on Skype or Google for two weeks now since COVID-19. If you are curious how lessons work online - please send me a message. Here is one practice video I recently created. https://youtu.be/7svPC0CfVww

For guitar lessons, I generally provide an equal balance of teaching students how to read standard music notation AND how to read chord diagrams and lyric sheets. I do try to cater my lessons toward student interests. In this sample lesson I am working with a 6th grade student. I like for my students to pick what songs they'd like to learn - I print lyric sheets for them and we work out the chords and the strumming. For note reading, I use Alfred's guitar method. I also teach my students about tablature but in general do not use tab. This lesson was done using Google Hangout. It was a 1/2 hour lesson. In the half hour lesson we worked from the book, we worked on the chords for Free Fallin' and we reviewed the chords for A Horse With No Name. https://youtu.be/-P_9wOsopLs
