Milking cows is the main purpose and point of business on a dairy farm. At Willow Bend they milk 1,500 cows in a milking parlor that allows them to milk 48 cows at one time, 24 on each side. #DairyOnTheMoove
Help name Jessica the Jersey’s calf!
Keeping employees and visitors safe is very important on any farm and that’s no different here at Willow Bend. Upon arrival, visitors are provided a visitor ves...t to keep them highly visible to everyone on the farm. Every team on the farm wears a different colored vest, depending on which team they work on, all highly visible to keep everyone safe. See more
Who remembers our very first Jersey calf that was born at the Dairy Cow Birthing Center? Jessica the Jersey made her debut on September 2, 2017 and here she is ...today!!! She’s a three year old cow which means she’s had two calves, one last year and one this year. Stay tuned for an opportunity to name her #uddermiracle later today! See more
There are a lot of moving parts on the farm and a lot of people working here so communication in all forms, verbal and written, are important to ensure everyone... is on the same page and the animals are continually provided consistent care. Here at Willow Bend, they have a feeder meter which is a milk cart that feeds their calves. The Feeder Meter provides consistency in feeding so if a calf is supposed to get 3 quarts of milk, the feeder meter delivers exactly that much milk. Cows and calves like consistency so this process allows the employees at Willow Bend to focus on efficiencies. #dairyonthemoove See more
Calves at Willow Bend Farm live in hutches which allow them to stay safe, healthy, dry, and warm. After a calf is born here at the farm, they are fed a gallon o...f colostrum within the first hour of being born. This boosts their immunity and kick starts their life. They are provided an ear tag number that stays with them for their lifetime and then they are introduced to their new home - their own hutch! For the folks at Willow Bend, a key benefit to the hutches has been the improved health of their calves. Providing them with individual space has helped keep their calves healthier from the start. #DairyOnTheMoove See more
How does milk get from a dairy cow on a farm to the fridge in your home? It all starts with dairy farmers caring for the cows that produce the milk. Happy #NationalFarmersDay! #Unbottled
