This past Saturday's "Stuff the Cruiser" was a heartwarming and phenomenal event that truly shows the spirit of our community! Thank you to the public safety professionals who participated, to Walmart for hosting and to Wyoming County Community Action for partnering. A real heartfelt gratitude goes to those of you that gave so generously and expressed your caring thoughts. We will now work with Community Action, our schools, our churches and our community to ensure those in need receive the toys, clothes and essentials you so neighborly donated. THANK YOU! -SHERIFF GREG RUDOLPH

A MESSAGE FROM THE NEW YORK STATE SHERIFFS’ ASSOCIATION TO ALL NEW YORKERS Since the first COVID-19 orders issued by the New York State Health Department, Sheriffs across the state have been responding to thousands of complaints of violations of those orders. They have been doing what they can, within the law and the Constitution, to address those complaints. The criminal laws have very limited applicability with respect to those complaints, and in most cases use of the cr...Continue reading

I want to warn you regarding a new style of an old phone scam targeting our aging population in and around Wyoming County. Phone calls are being received with the caller claiming to be a grandchild and involved in a motor vehicle accident. The caller indicates that their friend’s father is an attorney and can handle the situation with large sums of cash or for bail. The caller advises that a court official will come to their house to pick up the money in person because... of the COVID-19 Pandemic. They are additionally informed not to tell anyone because of a gag order. If personal information is obtained, someone will come to the victim’s house to obtain the money. Residents are urged not to give any personal information over the phone and to contact their family member and Investigator Anderson of the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office (585-786-8989) as we are working with several law enforcement partners to identify these criminals. -SHERIFF GREG RUDOLPH

PEACE OFFICERS MEMORIAL DAY In 1962 President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that day falls as Police Week. In celebration of National Police Week, I’d like to encourage everyone to take the time to recognize our local law enforcement officers. Give them a pat on the back and thank them for the selfless jobs they do for our community each day. They face many unknown risks and challenges and th...eir sacrifice and service is often taken for granted. The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office has had one Peace Officer die in the line of duty in our 179 year history. Jailor Blakely Humphrey was attacked and brutally beaten by two inmates on May 17, 1961 and he succumbed to his murderous injuries on May 27, 1961. Blake Humphrey’s name is displayed on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC and its tracing is displayed in our lobby. Let us remember. -SHERIFF GREG RUDOLPH

On May 5, 1984, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed the first full week of May as National Correctional Officers week. This year National Correctional Officer week falls on May 3-9, 2020. During this week we recognize and thank our Correctional Officers for their professionalism, integrity, and strength in a difficult work environment. Correctional Officers at the Wyoming County Jail have made many adjustments recently due to the COVID-19 pandemic. These changes include, but ...are not limited to, work schedule changes, extra efforts to maintain cleanliness and sanitation for prevention of the spread of COVID-19, safety and security adjustments necessary to maintain the safety of staff and inmates alike from exposure to COVID-19, along with many other changes necessary to keep everyone at the facility as safe as possible. We would like to thank our Correctional Officer staff for all of the extra effort that they have put in recently to provide a safe and secure environment at the Wyoming County Jail, along with everything they already do on a daily basis.
