Our coalition follows a model that tells us to begin with the data. As we watch the data emerge on marijuana, we grow increasingly concerned about the health and safety of youth, families, and communities. The Yonkers Family YMCA recognizes that this has been a very difficult week for many. We feel it too. The death of George Floyd has surfaced deep divisions in o...ur country. The Y stands in full support of all African Americans locally and across the country to be free from racism, inequity, violence and systemic oppression. Dr. King has taught us that when one of us is affected, all of us are. The Y will continue to be a space of inclusion for all and support dialogue that will foster a better understanding of American history and systemic oppression. While our facility is closed, our staff is working hard to support youth, adults and families in Yonkers facing difficulty during this time. We recognize that national events affect us all and the Y remains here for our community. Last night, surrounded by my colleagues on the council, I was proud to sign legislation banning flavored e-cigarettes. Thank you to News 12 Westchester for cove...ring this momentous legislative milestone! And thank you to Mayor Mike Spano for signing the legislation into law this morning. Yonkers is now the first municipality in New York to do this. It's time we put people ahead of profit and take on the tobacco industry head-on!
