In the year 2020, it’s been predicted that an estimated 276,480 women* in the U.S. will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer & 48,530 women* will be diagnosed with non-invasive breast cancer. For someone receiving a diagnosis like this, among a wide range of new concerns, thoughts of how to start a family may be one of the questions someone may have. We recently caught up with the director of fertility preservation at CCRM Dr. Knopman, who offered us some insight into ...the various components of navigating a fertility journey through a breast cancer diagnosis. Patients feel so relaxed and pain-free after an acupuncture treatment that they regularly ask our practitioners What’s in those needles? The answer? Nothing! The feeling you get during a treatment surprisingly has almost nothing to do with the actual needle and everything to do with you. Studies have proved that the needles cause your body to release natural opiates, hence the feeling of well being you feel after we treat you. If you’d like to learn more about the effects of acupuncture or would like to book a treatment, head to our website!

This post contains sensitive material about miscarriage. According to the March of Dimes, as many as half of all pregnancies result in miscarriage, most often occurring before a missed a period. Furthermore, roughly 20% of recognized pregnancies end in a miscarriage. This number is often surprising, as miscarriages or early pregnancy loss are not often spoken about and the fact that we don’t speak about this very often can cause people to feel isolated and alone if they ha...ve had or are going through a miscarriage. That feeling of isolation is something a member of our team experienced. She bravely decided to share her story with our community in the hopes of letting people know that they are not alone and that those feelings - grief, anger, disappointment, guilt, shame, emptiness - are part of a collective experience. You can read Selina’s story here.

The body is extremely intelligent: it is resilient and has an ingrained instinct to survive and thrive. Oftentimes, the body is able to reduce anxiety and increase a sense of well-being by tapping into its own hardwiring which encourages a shift in brain chemistry and stress hormones. However, in some cases, tapping into that hardwiring can prove to be difficult. Head to our blog for Yinova practitioner Dr. Kelsey Tangel’s advice on some natural remedies to help reduce anxiety and start the healing process.

While the exact cause of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is unknown, an excess of androgen hormones, high insulin levels, stress, low-grade inflammation, obesity, and genetic predisposition can contribute to the incidence of PCOS. One of the main things we tell our patients is to work on the things that are within their control. Stress and weight gain are two things that can be controlled with diet and exercise. Inflammation and insulin levels are also well controlled with diet and exercise to some extent. We're discussing why consistent exercise and certain dietary adjustments may be to help to alleviate symptoms of PCOS and has offered some advice on some food swaps that could have an impact, over on our blog.
