When our studio was founded in the fall of 2013, our studio director had a baby only a few months old. Of the first few classes we had per week, two of those were prenatal and one was a baby and me yoga class. Seven years later, these offerings continue to be integral to our studio's focus on supporting caregivers, families, and the youngest of yoga students. When we pivoted to a virtual studio last March, we were determined to get creative and to keep these programs going,... and we'd love for you to join us, tag friends, or share this with those who could benefit from our loving and accepting community at this intense and strange time. If finances are an issues, please contact us for a scholarship application, it's a vital part of our mission to help break down the barriers that keep yoga and wellness a luxury item. Virtual Offerings from Pre-Post Natal (All classes are EST and offered via zoom) Postpartum Support This Monday, January 11, our next 6 week session of Mindful Mamas: Sacred Postpartum Support resumes on Monday Nights at 8:30pm. Special Workshop Pregnancy Exercise & Birth Prep: Not Just Kegels with Sujata Martin, Saturday January 16, from 3-4:15pm Pre/postnatal Yoga Our current 6 week series that just started last week is SOLD OUT, but our Monday drop-in class has a new time of 6:30-7:45pm and will also become a 6 week series starting 1/28. *Registration will be open for the next Monday and Thursday 6 week series this week. Blessing to you and yours, whatever you are celebrating. May all beings everywhere be safe. May all beings everywhere be healthy. May all beings everywhere be happy.... May all beings everywhere be peaceful. We miss everyone so much, and we cannot wait to all be present together. In the meantime, we will keep working to cultivate community in the other ways that are possible right now. Just a Friday night gentle reminder that growth is not linear, or predictable, or organized. It happens in its own unexpected, wild and powerful way, often taking us by surprise and not looking at all how we expected, or were attached to. When we are unpacking belief systems, some of them ancient, we can invite extra grace and spaciousness because of this unexpected nature of growth. Some have likened a sacred path of awakening to a spiral. We continue to come back around to ...a particular issue, construct, habituated way of being, belief system, from different vantage points, including those we are in relationship with journeying through similar experiences which grants us yet another view. Here’s an excerpt from Insight Yoga by Sarah Powers that relates to this: daily inward-drawn attention teaches us how to heal and fully inhabit ourselves, developing an attitude of attentiveness and kindness within us. Patterns of neglect and self-abuse manifest in a myriad of habitual ways. When we regularly turn our attention toward our inner landscape in a yoga practice, we learn how to avoid becoming ensnared by these familiar behaviors. Learning how to live in our bodies in a wholesome way and to be better friends to ourselves becomes the foundation of a compassionate worldview... Adding practices of loving-kindness (metta) and compassion (karuna) to our meditation time will help deeper our responsiveness, especially toward those in need or suffering. So here’s to continuing along our path of growing, however it may look, and knowing that our practices will help give us the fortitude to keep going when the path unfolds differently then we had envisioned. What does growth look like for you just now? And how are your practices supporting this? Lastly, how can we support you, as a community in this work? #growth #growthmindset #healing #selfcare #compassion #worldcare #dothework #yoga #lovingkindness #compassion #peacebeginswithme

The winter solstice is just a few days away for the northern hemisphere, a day when we both welcome back the light, and formally welcome winter. What a beautiful paradox: as the cold days arrive, so does the gradual return of more and more sunlight. The seasons we share, both literally and figuratively, will keep changing. And the light will always return. Tonight is also the last night of Hanukkah, these shared traditions about resiliency, miracles and light are especially p...oignant right now, and have helped to give hope to humans for as long as we possibly can remember. How do you celebrate the change of the seasons in your family? We’ll be posting some ideas for celebrating the Solstice at home in the coming days and in our stories, and would love for you to tag us too! We wish we could be together this Monday, but we'll be connected by each candle we light. Two NEW classes a week with Sam, Tuesday intermediate vinyasa from 5:30-6:30pm and Friday Alignment 12-12:45. Also with Sam (who we’ll be featuring in our next post, a buffalo native who is moving home in the spring), a Winter Solstice Celebration and practice Sunday 12/20 from 10-12pm (sign up unde...r workshops and events) Majorly missing our annual in person Winter Solstice Celebration, already counting the days to next year, but we’ll be posting a meditation and mini rituals you can do at home with loved ones. Time with little cuties, yoga for babies and toddlers coming back in January! Registration for these fun virtual classes will be up by Friday. (we found that this is a creative way for them to get socialization with other wee ones.) Needing to tend to the built up feelings and stress from these intense and isolating times? How about a private session? Several our instructors, including our director @megan_marie_callahan offer 30 and 60 minute private sessions in yoga, embodiment coaching and/or energy work. and Snow Yoga is in the works too! A note from the director. We are in the final days of one of the longest and most challenging years in recent history. I was on a walk yesterday with my children, our continued commitment to #frulitsliv (which I wrote about in our love letter at the beginning of this month, the Nordic approach of embracing a positive attitude about colder weather) and was captivated by this #rosebush . Even as it withered, It was still quite beautiful to behold. I was flooded with the knowi...ngness, as my feet stood on the earth just a few feet away, of the pain and beauty of #impermanence. Everything is going to keep changing. This construct can help us deeply and is one of the most crucial things I’ve learned (and continue to learn) from yoga and contemplative practices. When we are in the midst of an incredible or delightful experience, maybe with someone we love dearly, somewhere there’s a knowingness it will end, and that can cause pain, but also presence and appreciation for that experience as it’s happening, helping to ground us in the moment. But on the flip side, when we are in the throes of soul pain, physical discomfort or agony, sickness, grief, ______, we can remember that it also, will end. It’s not going to last forever, and keeping this in mind can sometimes help us to endure a tough patch, or a tough year. This rose will be back. And the dormancy that is approaching is a needed part of its life cycle. This reminds me again that WE are a part of nature, and need these cycles as well. As the #holidays arrive, and many of us find ourselves ailing for loved ones and rituals that make the #winter symbolically warmer, impermanence can comfort us that it won’t always be this way. And it can move us to action to help care for the most vulnerable, which consequently helps our own mental health too. What are your thoughts on the coming winter and your #reflections as this year ends? Have you been able to get outside? We’d love to hear from you. Taking the time to share how we are collectively navigating this helps us all. And If you are out on a walk and see a beautiful scene like in this image, tag us, so we can share in the beauty of this time together. #love

On the first day of the year, come and offer a yoga mala of 108 sun salutations with Yoga Parkside's Amanda Muldoon @sakkaski Collectively we will welcome the new year. Gathering together in the darkness of winter, and taking this opportunity to let go of anything weighing us down, we'll create space and energy for the coming year. Variations and modifications will be included, and rest is encouraged when needed. We will do a deep guided relaxation at the close of the mala, a...s this kind of practice is very powerful. At the close of our practice we will write our intentions and offerings for the year and address them to ourselves. We will then get together for practice in six months time to open our letters and reminisce on the words we wrote to ourselves and reunite in practice. This practice will be donation based, to benefit Food Bank of WNY. As this is a donation based class, class passes and memberships will not be accepted. Please donate what you can. #unity #yogapractice #community #newlight #cometogether #2021 #lookwithin #108sunsalutations

The new year has arrived. These first few days of January are an interesting time. In light of how tenuous last year was for so many, here’s a prayer that we can enter into this year a bit more gently then previous Januarys, when perhaps we held grandiose and sometimes harsh expectations for ourselves. We are dreaming about getting outside more all year long (including upcoming events,) learning about and practicing intuitive eating, developing and nurturing rest practices, a...nd employing digital minimalism and a personal statement around technology so that these spaces are ones we can use in ways that are truly nourishing. What are you dreaming about? Perhaps you are taking time to grieve, and it’s not in you to dream just now. Remember that grief and praise can coexist, that learning to be present and mindful isn’t about being peaceful all the time. It’s about allowing ourselves to feel things as they come up, to notice our thoughts, and to learn about ourselves in that noticing and feeling. Speaking of being intentional about technology, it’s been powerful to explore the question of how community can exist in an online world, in this time of prolonged social distancing and keeping vulnerable ones safe. We love hearing from our students that the personal check-in’s and friendliness people loved about our in person studio, has translated to a virtual medium. So as you take some time to think about a gentle start to this year, we’d love for you to consider joining our virtual studio, or spreading the word if you are already a part of it. We have classes, memberships and passes for all budgets so visit our website or message us for more info. We’d love to hear from you and help support your dreams and intentions for well being, presence, self love, compassion, and growth. Thank you for being here, you are always welcome. #selfcare #2021 #gentle #selflove #community #loveyourself #growth #winter #january #youarewelcomehere #virtualyoga #flowers #outdoors #yoga #mindfulness #ypgoesvirtual

The last day of a long year. Can you take a moment today to celebrate that you are here? That you are reading this, breathing, learning, unlearning, growing and healing. There is a hero within you. How does it feel as you read those words? Is there resonance? Resistance? Either way, it is true, the fact that you are here and have made it to this point is truly heroic. Just keep going on the path as it continues to unfold. And remember you are never alone. Our community is here for you. Reach out anytime, we mean that. Blessings for the close of this year and the start of another from Yoga Parkside. #hero #youareloved #dontgiveup #justkeepsoftening #love #2020 #newyear #newyearseve #winter #community #outdoors #2021 #hope #hope

This past January during our annual Revive & Replenish destination retreat in Tambor, Costa Rica, those on the retreat said over and over that we HAD to share about how amazing the food is, in addition to everything else there is to say about this magical trip. "Freaking delicious. Absolutely amazing. The food itself was great - huge variety. I'm not a vegetarian and I didn't feel like I was missing anything during the meals. The timing was perfect." "It was an amazing exper...ience from start to finish. I love how quickly we bonded, I love the unforced nature of the trip, I love the variety of doing and being. I loved the food and the yoga. I loved the sun and the ocean, I loved the farmers market and excursions. I loved the location of the villa. I loved the meals with daily check ins and reflections."
